TerryR (382), Oswego, Illinois, USA Jan 24, 2007 Dark brown with ruby highlights. Tan head almost disappears. Aroma is roasted malt. More roasted malt in the flavor, along with some chocolate and hints of dark fruit. Dry, slightly bitter finish. First time available in the Chicago area to my knowledge. legion242 (1572), Richardson, Texas, USA Jan 21, 2007 Very poor examle of the style IMHO. Nice color but no head and the palate is pure metallic- black metallic. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jan 21, 2007 Bottle. Courtesy of hopdog. Thanks Steve! Opaque dark brown pour with a small tan head. Nose is toasty but subtle with caramel, sweet malts, nuttiness, light choco notes and soft bitterness. Taste is equally roasty and slightly bitter. Dark chocolate notes, caramel, sweet chewy malts and chocolate covered peanuts round this out. Body is chewy and rich with moderate carbonation a medium-full feel. Finishes with more chocolate, caramel, sweet malts, and nuttiness. Some toasty flavors throughout the end as well. Very nice stuff! Tejas (693), Dallas, Texas, USA Jan 19, 2007 Good appearance. Perfect head. Good balance between roastines and bitterness. VERY dry palate which I don’t care for. Definite anchor flavor. Seems like a cousin of their delicious porter. vanvenlo (794), Glen Iris, Australia Jan 18, 2007 29 Apr 06 - Sweet malt and complex fruit hop aroma. Dark brown-red colour, good head and fantastic sheet lacing that stays. Light fruit malt and vegetable hoppy flavour. Stark malt and hop finish, a bit thin and a distinctive finish. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Jan 16, 2007 Updated: Jun 11, 2007I was excited to get a six pack of this last spring but was not expecting to be wowed by the flavor. Pours a modest brown and mahogany tinged body, ruby highlights and a dwindling tan head. Blackstrap molasses leads the way in the aroma, along with notes of herbal hops, nuts and caramel. Flavor is outstanding, more focused on hop spices rather than bitterness, creating a frre roaming plane for the caramel malts to shine. Excellent mouthfeel and a bittersweet and long lasting finish. Very well made bock. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Jan 10, 2007 Hop malt aroma with smotky bitterness. Dark brown red colour with fair head and good lacing. Very bitter burnt malt flavour. Smooth palate. brstp (201), Princeton, New Jersey, USA Jan 9, 2007 Updated: Jan 14, 2007Bottle. Very dark color but not quite black, khaki head that leaves slight to moderate lacing. Aroma is of molasses and spice, mouthfeel is pretty thin with tangy spice that moves into a thinnish malt, taste has caramel and coffee.
