COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Very nice dark mahogany with large foamy tan head. Buttery chocolate aroma. Great roasted buttery chocolate malts with a dry coffee finish. Body is a tad watery, not very full, but easy drinking.

Aroma: at first smell there is light with caramel but as it gets to room temp the aroma fades to chocolate. Thin head, deep red/dark brown appearance. Taste: slight coffee upfront with a smoked finish. Thin body.

Draught. Very smoky aroma with hints of butterscotch, coffee, and caramel. Dark brown, nearly black with a patchy but elegant head. Smooth palate with a strong smoke flavor, lightly sweet. A touch thin but immensely smooth.

Pours a deep ruby brown into the glass with minimal head. Aroma is sweet with some fruity notes. Flavor is smooth and refreshing. Theres some taste of burnt sugar and roasted grain. The hops are present just enough to balance out the sweet profile of this beer.

An interesting brew, insofar as it challenges the style’s boundaries to a huge degree. Very dark, almost opaque, with ruby highlights. One-finger, tan head. Aroma of strawberries & lemon. Flavor is much less sweet than most dark bocks. In fact, sweetness plays a marginal role in the set of flavors. Sour cherry, chocolate, burned toast, and citric hops are the main flavors, with a touch of dark toffee in the first third. The acidic quality does not feel like a bock, nor does the porter-like espresso bean roast. If you like porters, you will probably particularly enjoy this.

Bottle. Poured deep brown with thick tan head. Aroma of swet malt and chocolate. Medium body. Bittersweet chocolate and malt, a bit of roast. Toasty finish. Worth drinking when you find it.

Beautiful dark beer, bottle poured with thick, creamy brown head. Smooth + Tasty. Slight hop linger with minimal hop presence. Chocolate and cherries, what a delicious beer.

I remember this beer differently, did they change the recipe? Now pours very dark brown, almost black, tall khaki head. Big meaty aroma, burnt chocolate, burnt wood, tastes like that old tale of "scaping the bottom of the kettles". Big flavor, earthy and hearty.
