Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy finely sized bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a typically carbonated dark brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was sweet and dark malt. The thin smooth mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The thin flavor contained notes of sweet and dark malt. An OK brew just nothing special.

One of my favorite regular bock beers. Pours a ruby red clear and a thin lasting sticky head and some lace. Aroma is lightly roasty, thcik strong caramel and toasted malts, lightly nutty and some chocolate hints. Roasted nuts, thick toasted malts, bready, loads of munich character and a light herbal hop finish with a hint of sweetness. Great smooth mouthfeel. Nice fall beer.

12oz bottle. Dark amber color brew with light brown head. Sweet malt and molasses aroma. The flavor begins with a slight tart twinge that hits as the carbonation does. Then roasted malts and some brown sugar (maybe) fill in the rest of the flavor. As the taste ends the flavors kind of even out and dissipates.

Thanks to dickinsonbeer for opening the bottle... Appears a dark brown with some deep crimson notes around the edges. A chunky, tan head slowly fades out into a mild cap and leaves little spots of lacing all around the glass. Smell is of cocoa, roasted nuts, cream, toasty malt, molasses, and a touch of caramel with some notes of gentle astringency. Taste is of the aromas with a bit of astringency coming through more in the flavor, making for a slight dropoff against the aromas. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, thin along the palate, and astringent.

Bottle shared courtesy of dickinsonbeer. Poured a dark brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of roasted nuts (quite nutty), light cocoa, and some caramel. Tastes of nuts, chocolate, and lighter roast.

Poured a red chestnut color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of nuts, roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, and light alcohol. Taste of more roasted malts, a dry nuttiness, cardboard, toffee, and light citrus.

Bottle from dickinsonbeer. Thanks! Very dark brown. Very small head. Aroma is heavy molasses , dark roasted malts, and a bit of caramel. Medium bodied, flavors are less pronounced than nose--very roasty, molasses again, coffee grounds. Overall, enjoyable, but lacks the sweetness I like in a bock. Very happy to get to try this one though. Great Label. I guess I just like goats.
