COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

12oz. bottle. Pours a dark copper color with a thin tan head that laces well. Aroma is of sweet fruit and roasted malts. Flavor is of raisins, roasted malts and hint of cinnamon. Mouthfeel is smooth and velvet-like. A very good purchase.

Creamy medium lasting light brown head. Dark brown, almost black colour. Aroma is malty with roasty, coffe and nuts notes. Flavor is malty too with a strong roasty accent and a chocolate beginning then candy tones, ending in a initially malty (dark fruits) and then balanced, slightly roasty finish. Light to medium bodied.

This beer had that weird marshmellowy aroma and taste that I have found in a few beers during my beer drinking adventures. Another one that had it that stands out the most is alesmiths ipa. Anyways pour was a dark brown almost black color with huge foamy off white head. Aroma was great, caramel, malts, dark fruits, raisins, big roastiness. Flavor was similar but the marshmellow thing was too potent, as I’ve stated before its not a bad trait, just weird for a beer. The caramel flavor mixed extremely well with the figgy raisin taste.

From the cryptic bottling code on back, I believe this was packaged in December, 2006. Pours a deep black with a solid, one-finger tan head. Caramel and raisins, sweet chocolate and plums rise from the tulip. Very nice and complex aroma for a fairly small beer. The body is medium with chewy carbonation. It explodes with bittersweet chocolate, fudge, raisans, bourbony plums, chocolate-covered cherries, the list goes on. This one really surprised me. Great stuff.

Bottle, courtesy of kmweaver, poured into a dimpled mug. Pours a deep burgundy brown (garnet when held to the light) with a creamy, pitted, tan head that slowly diminishes. The aroma is of Raisinets, light malted milk, Root Beer Barrels (the hard candy). and a faint, fruity hop note. Medium-bodied and slick with a soft mouthfeel that quickly asserts its carbonation upon swallowing, wrapping your tongue in a cascade of tiny bubbles. The finish is quick with just a hint of hop bitterness and metal coming through. The flavor is surprisingly more complex than the nose. Sweet chocolate notes precede peat, weak coffee and dark fruit notes followed by a hint of the hops and metal mentioned above. This is my first beer of this style, and it won’t be my last. Unfortunately, this is the one offering from Anchor that cannot be acquired locally. Much thanks again, Ken.
