lgklotet (420), Singapore, Singapore Oct 31, 2006 Bottle. Very dark, close to black. Thick lacy brown head that last forever. Quite noticeable carbonation. Packs a hoppy punch in the initial aroma, this note fades and yields to roasty malts that also dominate the taste. Sweet with a note I can best describe as "fresh".. whatever that means... But overall, this is great stuff. Maybe not a perfect example of the style, but to me, that’s no loss. Creds to Systembolaget for getting hold of this stuff.. "available only in the San Francisco Bay Area while supplies last".. I guess it does have certain advantages sometimes with having only one retailer/distributor for an entire nation. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 15, 2006 Reddish broan with a thick lacing white head. A sweet caramle and molasse aroma, very fruity. In mouth, a nutty sweet malt with sweet cane sugar, maple and nutmg. Medium bodied. A great Anchor beer. Bottle was more than 1 yr old, bought in California August, 2005. joss (3630), Garching b. München, Germany Oct 12, 2006 Bottle. Dark hazlenut, creamy golden head. Light fruit and nut nose.
Medium body. Choc and nut flavors. Herbal finish. Berry aftertaste. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Oct 12, 2006 Very dark ruby black pour, beige head. Burnt coffee, malty aroma, flavor follows with added cocoa and sweet caramel, toffee. A nicely complex brew, seems like a dark lager with stout characteristics. BillKismet (1896), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 8, 2006 Dark color with pleasing carbonation and a rocky mocha head. Aroma of caramel with notes of cardboard. Started off with a very chilled sample, yet lovely carmel flavorings still leaked out. Crisp caramel throughout the session with a burnt finish and balanced sweetness. Very impressed with this latest selection from Anchor. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 6, 2006 12 oz bottle, via fordest. Pours a very dark brown with a ruby glow, clear, under a smallish fizzy brown head that retained as a thin film. Aroma is very malty and clean. Quite thick and slightly syrupy with a touch of vanilla, alcohol, and Frangelico liquor. Flavor is all malt with some coffee, alcohol, and a light acidity. Fairly thin flavor though. Mouthfeel is where this beer really loses it though. It’s quite thin with a watery texture up front and a slightly sticky finish. No body or chewiness that I want from a Bock. Overall, I just don’t think that this brought enough to the table. I’m a fan of Anchor, but this just didn’t do it for me. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA Oct 3, 2006 Dark reddish-brown body with a small, but tasty-looking tan, small-bubbled head. Very malty, crips aroma. This is surprisingly dry for a bock, IMHO. Crisp, refreshing finish. It is smooth and easy to drink. A little thin in the flavor - not enough "umph", but overall its a decent beer. notalush (2627), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 3, 2006 Very dark amber pour, with substantial tan lace - medium sweet aroma, with hints of wheat, clove, chocolate and brown sugar - medium-bodied and creamy - slightly sweet, with a gentle, balancing tartness - cocoa, caramel, clove, even a hint of cherries - very subtly complex - quite nice.
