Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 27, 2006 Great deep brown color with a tan head. Caramel, sugar and wheat grain dominate the aroma. Caramel, toffee, bitter chocolate, some barley are all evident in the taste. Nice ending. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 27, 2006 Dark black color with a medium creamy light brown head. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Jul 23, 2006 Bottle a gift from Odeed, thanks Jacob; Nose at first showed apples, then changed to caramel malt and raisins; color dark but transparent brown with a medium tan head; flavor malty with chocolate, caramel, and molasses. Ughsmash (3983), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 19, 2006 Bottle thanks to JohnC. Poured a rich, deep, clear mahogany with ruby highlights... medium cap of toffee headage. Nose grew on me as this warmed... with burnt caramel, lightly-smoked darker fruits, rum-soaked raisins, and cocoa.. along with woodsy hops. This was even better in the flavor department... with a chocolate and rummy-raisin sweet malt base accented by damp freshly-cut wood, molasses, and caramel. The finish was sweet and a tad smoky. Medium-bodied, sweet, and smooth... but a tad grainy on the back-end. This was an excellent beer and a pleasant surprise! jeffc666 (1887), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jul 16, 2006 Deep caramel minimal tan head. The aroma is carmel and herbs. The flavor is pretty damn nice, caramel, molasses, dark ripe fruits. medium-full palate. Quite good. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jul 16, 2006 Beer #4 RBSG 06. Almost passed on trying this since I’m not a big fan of the style, but then I figured, what the heck? Very dark brown, slight head. Light wort aroma. Flavor matched, straight up sweet wort, but there was a hint of chocolate and light berry notes. Not bad, but still just not my bag. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jul 15, 2006 Draft at San Diego Brewing Company. Sweet malty aromas come off this really dark brown/ruby pour. Very bready nose. Flavors were dark and malty as well. Yeast notes and a subtler but decent hop finish. Not Bad.
