Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

12oz bottle via trade with JoeMcPhee! - Thanks Joe! - Pours a beautiful dark mahogony with ruby highlights and a nice tan creamy head. Aromas of sweet caramel malts, raisin, and some light coffee. Flavor is caramel, raisin, a touch of chocolate, quite malty with some delightful dark fruit notes as well. Palate is smooth and creamy without much carbonation and medium body. Finishes with a fruity aftertaste. This is really good and probably my favorite bock of all time.

Bottle shared with GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- courtesy of GregClow via HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark deep ruby with an average size lasting tan head -- looks quite good. Aroma of sweet malt, dark fruit and hops. Nice chocolately and fruity flavour with some caramel malt and a light bitter finish -- a touch watery. Light to medium bodied. Pretty good, a nice version of the style.

Bottle... Clear, very dark, crimson lager with a mid-sized, frothy, well-tanned head. Great retention. Malty, dark, rich aroma with notes of raisin, dried plum, molasses and just a whiff of cardboard. The flavor is well-balanced. However, all the rich, dark malts and esters promised by the nose don’t quite show up in the flavor. Not a bad thing; a lager being clean. Just not really what I prefer in a bock, but that’s only me. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and marginal carbonation... more than mild, less than medium. Finishes pretty clean. Just a touch lactic. Good beer, overall.

Aroma: plum, raisins, malt and lightly spiritous. Appearance: dark brown with red highlights, lightly hazy with a tan head and sheet lacing. Flavour: mounds of roastiness with initial bitterness giving way to mochery and malty notes. Palate: thin but gently carbonation, carbon notes giveway to the maltyness with a little toffee.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, tupalev & jerc - courtesy of HogTownHarry. Deep ruby brown with a wispy head. Sweet, malty aroma with some roastiness around the edges. Really flavourful - rich, chocolately, with notes of wood and nuts, and a subtlely bittered finish. Very, very good!

Another beer I’ve been searching for that I got to try - yay! Bottle shared with GregClow, Blankboy, Jerc, and Hogtown Harry, courtesy of GregClow via Harry I think. Really nice aroma of leather / shoe polish and sweet malt - doesn’t sound great, but it was nice. Deep dark brown, foamy off white head. Nice deep malt taste - sweet and almost nutty. Lots of dry baker’s chocolate. Medium mouthfeel. A really nicely done bock.

Dark brown body, small creamy tan head (3+). Muted sweet malt, muted alcohol in the aroma. Flavour is moderate malt, light malty tang lingers in the finish and is a bit distracting. Average palate. Decent, touch simplistic but enjoyable.
