UPDATED: DEC 30, 2007 Pours dark brown, near black with reddish hues with a mostly receding tan head. Aroma of toffee, foamy caramel, light chocolate, and almost no roast. Taste is sweet roast, chocolate and Mouthfeel is full bodied with moderate, fine carbonation. Enjoyable chocolatey bock.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Bigsilky (323) - Charleston, USA - JUN 3, 2007
Dark, very dark chestnut brown. Off-white head that fades to a gossamer cover until roused by a swirl. Roasted aromas and sweet malt of the nose and now real force of hops evident. Very well balanced, caramel and toasted malt fruit glides along a smooth and textured mouthfell. As refreshing as it is restorative.

Bottle. Aroma of roasted / toasted malt, pit fruit, bubblegum, and chocolate. The palate is a little thin. Flavor is similar to the smells, but real smokey. Not my favorite style.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color bock with a rather large off-white foamy head with better then average retention. Aroma of rich and sweet malt is domination and quite pleasant if maybe a bit strong for the style. Taste is also dominated by rich and sweeter then expected malt. Body is full with some adequate carbonation. Interesting take on the style but a bit too sweet for the style IMHO.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 georgekappus (296) - Brookfield, Connecticut, USA - MAY 26, 2007
Pours brown, when held up to the light, has amber tones. There was almost no head. Upon smelling it there was little aroma other than malt. It had a slightly sour taste. I wish I hadn’t bought a sixer.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 EithCubes (3054) - GERMANY - MAY 25, 2007
UPDATED: APR 22, 2008 Bottle. Sweetish dark malts with molasses. Dark ruby body with a lively little light brown head that’s gone without even taking off its head. Taste is very dry, bitter, dark. Aftertaste as well. Lightish body. Alcohol warming (surprising for this level) and slight numbing of the soft palate. Herbiness with light plum and tobacco, slight roast. This is like no German Bock I’ve had, and despite the appreciable complexity and craftsmanship, not even an offering I’d like to have again. Sharp, angular, and hard. [2.7]
After a few more bottles, I’ve come to love its dryness and its grit, but the mild fruitiness is not particularly becoming and the mild sharpness is misplaced. Long-lasting, extremely earthy hop tone, though, more than makes up for it. Much more tobacco coming out this time - better warm? Certainly plummier. A classy stand-alone - I find it hard to mix this with anything else, even bread or pretzels. [3.3]

Bottle: Deep clear red colour, with a nice creamy brown head. Aroma of citric, dark chocolate, rasin, lots of malts and som coffee, and the typical spicyness in the Anchor brew.
Flavor is smoth dark chocolate, and som dry coffee beans. Light to medium body.
Short bitter finish. Disepointing
