Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 15, 2006 (Bottle 65 cl) Pours a clear, dark mahogany with an orange hue and a handsome, beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malt. Medium-bodied with very dry, hard roasted malts - vaguely burned actually. Also some accents of good aroma hops. A pleasant albeit rather unusual Bock. 110606 JohnnyJ (1283), Carlsbad, California, USA Jun 13, 2006 A nice beer that can be found outside of San Francisco, unlike it says in the description. Pours a dark brown with a spicy flavor. Hints of chocolate and some herbal notes. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 12, 2006 Poured a dark brown color with a very nice tan head and great lacing the whole way down. The aroma was vinous with some hoppiness. The flavor was vinous, somewhat nutty, with light chocolate present. The finish was bitter and dry, hops (light pine but mostly resinous / bitter) and even the wheat somewhat detectable. Ungstrup (14758), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 11, 2006 Inspite of what the descriptions says, my friend picked this up at Systembolaget in Sweden - not exactly the Bay Area.<!-- br --><!-- br -->A deep red beer with a dense brown head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of herbs, but also a light touch of caramel. The flavor is sweet with a nice roastyness to it, but also a herbal note. I’m not that fond of the herbal notes - I wonder if it is the hops? Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Jun 10, 2006 This poured dark and had a tan, fizzy lasting head. Nose was roasted caramel, like a porter. There was bitterness and slight chocolate. Spicy and refreshing. Nice dry finish. Good brew. Thanks DarkElf. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 8, 2006 Bottled. Dark reddish brown with a creamy light brown head. Licorice, pepper, dark bread and hops. Spicy dry flavour of dark bread, anise, nuts and caramel. Smooth mouthfeel. Dry finish with small acidity. Pretty good. highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia Jun 8, 2006 At the end of a pigawful arsewipe of a day, it’s good to have a beer to cry into. It’s even better to have a good beer to cry into. Come to think of it, it may not be such a bad day after all. I haven’t tasted a dud Anchor, and this is no exception. It’s a rich teak colour with a tall lacing head. The aroma is a heady mix of molasses, crushed blackberries, mocha and peppery shiraz. There’s nothing subtle about it - it bangs you upside the nose. The mouthfeel is soft and medium-creamy. On the tongue, there is some blackcurrant and grape juice fruitiness before a mellow milky coffee mid-palate and a fairly grabby finish. It has the same bitter Xmas spice finish as the Celebration but I don’t think this is quite as balanced. It seemed cloying until the alcohol knocked the edge off the palate. Overall, this tasted like they’ve thrown the kitchen sink at it. A little less might be more. (Pint bottle; IBS, Perth; Batch 5YM) rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Jun 7, 2006 [Bottled]
Very dark brown colour, with a light brown head. Big aroma - licorice and lavender, tobacco. Soft mouthfeel and light bodied for a bock, with notes of lavender and tidbits. Anchor house character, that I previously took for hops. Lingering, roasty finish. The lavender reminds me of Anchor X-mas, but this is more balanced.
