3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jpm30 (1587) - East Central, Georgia, USA - FEB 16, 2007
From a distinctive Anchor stubby twist off 12 oz. bottle with a coded bottling date on the back label, sampled at cellar temperature in a dimpled mug.
Poured a reddish hued dark cola brown with a frothy, creamy tan head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing, small amount of ringed. laced sticking.
Aromas of chocolate, toffee, sweet berry fruity and lightly floral.
Good moderate carbonation and a crisp, dryish, creamy smooth light-medium bodied mouthfeel.
Pleasant tasting, a nice balance between malts, yeast and hops, chocolate covered caramel toffee that meshes with the sweet fruitiness, dry leafy hops that have a soft bitterness, a little spiciness as well, and a dry coffee, fruity finish.
A good spring seasonal from Anchor, one of the better American bocks.

Nice amount of medium bodied malts, light chocolates, weak coffee, bready, with a fairly bitter finish. Palate is a little to thin for me but its not terrible dissapointing.

Pours a great brown with red and settles dark brown with a large tan head. the aroma is a crisp and sharp earthy malt. Big peat malt and a spiciness giving hints of the great character from Anchor’s OSA. Earthy malt flavor, a little coffee and peat, spicy and some sweetness. A nice mix of irregular flavors. Finish is earthy, and smoky.

Creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied, nicely restrained malt sweetness with some bitterness and also some acidity. A good beer, but should it really be called a bock?

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 luckygirl (1221) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 9, 2007
Bottled. Beer is dark red-brown. Head is initially small, off-white, creamy-frothy. Diminishes quickly into a run and a surface mist.

Initially the aroma is quite earthy and engaging. Malty with light notes of toasted grain, toasted rye bread crust, chocolate and coffee; Hoppy with a bright note of moderate dried apricot and a light note of resin; Yeasty with a light note of basement; Tons of curious miscellaneous notes, which include a moderate note of dried porcini mushroom, light notes of tomato sauce, vinous balsamic vinegar, trace of top soil.

The flavor is moderately-to-heavily sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. The finish is average, lightly acidic, lightly bitter, lightly sweet.

The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.

Overall, very unique and engaging. Great balance of bitter and sweet, earthy and bright. Unusal notes in the aroma that are fun to discover.

Pour is a dark with with a average with head. Aroma is a nice malt and hops mix. Makes we want to take a sip right away. Flavor is nice caramel malts lots of chocolate and some hops come through in the end. Nice effort for a bock a very easy style to dislike.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 orville (160) - Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 9, 2007
(bottle) Pours a black with a brownish tinge. Aroma of ethonal, smoke, and pepper. Strong water flavor with an ethonal flavor. Why the high rating? This is a pretty lousy bock that lacks just about all the qualities of the style. I’ll be able to finish the other five but I certainly won’t be buying it agian.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 madcow75 (425) - Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 8, 2007
Bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a red tint when held up to the light. Thin to medium light brown head. Aroma of some dark fruits, leather, some smoke and plastic. Taste is caramel, dark fruits and chocolate. Finish is bitter, thin to medium body and a little chalky mouthfeel. Not familiar with this style, but I wasn’t too fond of this.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 scraff (2120) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 7, 2007
Brownish black, tan foamy head. Nose held notes of toasted caramel, dried dark fruits, and just a faint hint of smoke. Flavor was lightly tangy with more dried dark fruit, caramel, and hints of citric hops. Light bodied and slightly thin, medium carbonation, drying lightly bittersweet finish. Good brew for sessions...
