COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

I love this beer with steak. It’s everything you would expect from a bock, but a little malty aftertaste.

Used a snifter from a bottle. Deep brown, damn near black. Thick fluffy full, off white head thats lasts to the end. Full sheets and layers of lace. Great eye appeal. Nose is dark fruit, raisins and barely. Flavor is very earthy taste. Nuts, barley, caramel, light chocolate. Finish a little thin for a bock. but still pretty damn good. This isn’t a style I have much experience with. It MUST be on the higher end of a Dunkler Bock. Ok, brew.

Keg at North Bar, Leeds. Very happy to have found this, was eager to try it. Not disappointed, quite a remarkable beer. Rather lovely deep red-black colour, wonderful aroma: toasty, chocolatey, almost raisin-y. Tastes wonderful - again toasty, dark fruity, manages to be sweet but bitter at the same time, again like dark chocolate. Beautifully, beautifully done, balances itself and juxtaposes itself brilliantly. Very impressed.

Clear dark brown beer. Crispish palate. Rich malt with a distinct marmite tone and a little bitter hop fruit in the finish. Not bad but a tad bitter.

Keg at The North Bar, Leeds. Dark brown with ruby hue, cream head. Really quite sweet and fruity, plummy, strawberry with hints of dark roasted malts. Just too overly sweet for me.

Pours a deep reddish brown with a thick rich tan head. Aroma is of rich dark malt or maple syrup and brown sugar. Taste is very briefly sweet followed by roasted dark malt. It finishes with a bit of lingering sourness.

Tar pour with a moussey, nicotined swell of foam. Then the aroma; a saliva-making, deeply malty confection of molten Curly-Wurly, figs, carob draped with toffee sauce, a rub of orange, black pepper. Smells like Youngs Chocolate blended with a top doppelbock. Flavour has no chance of matching it, but has a go; soapy hop, sour dabs, dark figgy fruit dusted with burnt wood, the booze-sodden bottom of a trifle. Some English coal smoke and nutmeg-sprinkled dough (yeast?). Hop greenery on the burp for good measure. A winner, let down only by its fizziness.
