COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Very nice dark coloured bock. Nice sweet, malty and bitter taste. Overall a very nice bock, one of the best I’ve had.

Dark color, medium creamy brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice and chocolate, but overwhelmed also by strong hops, which give the aroma a specific character. Creamy texture, smooth taste. Slightly sourish, initially sweet chocolat and malty taste. Towards the end it becomes very bitter. I guess this is a typical American Bock: bigger, stronger, but also better than the classic bocks? Good stuff.

Thanks M500 for the sample: Looks the part with a deep coppery hue, good head and lace. Toffee and caramel balanced with some nice fruity undertones. A bit smoky and some bitterness as well. Yummy! Sticky but thin-bodied. I sure would like to try it again.

Not bad, in that there is character here, but it wasn’t really to my preferences. Aroma of grape, cola, body odor, mustiness, and alcohol. Pretty strong bitterness following roasted and chocolate flavor notes. Thanks Jazz88.

sticky aftertaste. Quite heavy for a ’spring’ bock. Otherwise a rather pleasant beer for a lazy saturday afternoon.

Nearly clear, caramel-y color, thick, lush, pinkish, cocoa-toned foam. Sweetness in the nose, roasty-toasty, toffee-ish, very pleasant. Malty attack on the tongue, and wonderfully mellow. A bit grainy and gritty, but still fruity and flush with flavor. Rich, dark, tasty. Chocolate malts? Very solid. Warm and comforting in the mouth, easily drinkable, tenaciously tasty...I like it, I like it...Good roast for a bock. I’d like to have this again, and again...very smooth, and luscious on the palate, an expertly brewed bock.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a minimal head. Smells of roasty malt and chocolate. Tastes like dark chocolate, coffee, and malts. Bitter on the finish. Medium body, not overly sweet. Quite enjoyable.
