COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

12 oz bottle from Mainbrew - Darker than I expected with a nice tan head. Aromas of caramel, licorice. A little more bitter than I would like. Not a hoppy bitter. It’s OK. One is enough.

Bottle: Very deep amber coloured, bigger stable tanned head; moderate to solid dryish toasty-fruity (dried berries) nose with a vinous touch; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; increasing hoppiness towards the moderate to solid fruity-toasty finish. Good, good.....

Bottle at PINT Meibockfestival ’11. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of liquorice, laurel, caramel, roasted malts. Flavour is lots of laurel and liquorice (drop), roasted malts, some caramel, sticky liquorice and light hoppy bitter finish. Medium bodied.

Pours dark brown with tan head, diminishing quickly. Aroma is roasty, burnt caramel, cocoa, nutmeg and date. Flavor is relatively sweet up front with with the date flavor and some cocoa coming through - notes of tobacco match the roasty maltiness. Finishes on the bitter side. Medium bodied, average carbonation - a flavorful Bock, which is not typically my first choice in style.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thick, foamy light brown head that sticks around for quite a while and laces very nicely. Aroma is malty, roasty, with some dark fruit, caramel. Taste is fairly full bodied and flavorful, taste is more malty with some chocolate. Finish is dry and malty. A very solid bock.

Finhead (654) - OFallon, Illinois, USA - APR 9, 2011
A dark brown pour with crimson edges and a tan head. It has a malty aroma filled with caramel and cherry. The medium body has a somewhat sticky texture and lively carbonation. The taste is sweet at first then adds some mild bitterness before the slightly dry finish.

(bottle, 35.5cl) Clear, dark brown colour with a ruby shine and a dense and thick tanned foamy head. Dark malty aroma with notes of caramel, chocolate, herbs and nuts, accompanied by a tinge of dried fruits. Roasty bitter and slightly sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a pleasant carbonation. Dark and roasted malt-character with an almost dry mouthfeel, notes of caramel and chocolate with herbal hops; bitter and slightly sweet roast-malty finish with dark chocolate in the aftertaste. Pleasant. 08.IV.11
