COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

On tap. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of buttery notes, roast, and sweet malt. Flavor is sweet and quite fruity (strawberry in particular) with raisin and dark fruits. Too sweet and the flavor profile was not to my liking. 6/4/5/3/11 [2.9/5]

Malty aroma with notes of Schwarzbrot and caramel. The flavour is also very malty with notes of caramel and brown bread, very moderate hops. Nice enough to drink.

Trader Joes’s, DC single ($1.42): Pours a darkish red brown color with a tan head. Aroma is slight roasted malts with some fruit aromas in there as well. Slightly sweet. Got a bitter finish. Really German flavors shining through better than most American bocks.Got some bread going up in there. Liqueur flavors and the like. Good stuff and very drinkable.

Bottle from Breeze Thru. Pours foamy mahongany with a brown head. Great lacing. Aroma is cocoa, caramel, toffee and raisins. Taste is roasted malts, cocoa, caramel and vanilla. Finishes a bit thin and quite sweet. Big fan of the aroma, unfortunately it does not carry through fully on that promise.

Bottle. Deep brown with a huge foamy light tan head. Aroma of dark rye bread, some chocolate and a bit of raisin. The flavor is lots of dark bready malt with a bitterness in the background just for balance. Medium body with average carbonation and a smooth mouth feel. This is a nice beer every once in a while, just not super drinkable IMO.
