Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Smells a little hoppy yet malty with some candy. Friendly goat chewing on a hop branch. Good clean malty impact for the palate. Aromatic and volatile. Alky finish is a hanger onner.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with ruby highlights and a a very large brown head. The aroma was sweet, malty and lightly roasty. The flavor was tangy, bitter, roasty and a but nutty with a long tangy an d roasty finish. The mouthfeel was decently thick. Decent but rather forgettable.

Deep dark light absorbing brown that can be coaxed into some garnet highlights with intense backlight. Thick creamy tan head. Malt and brown sugar aroma. The flavor is full of sweet malt with little to no hop bitterness or flavor. Could perhaps use a bit more body, but this is not really thin in any way. A bit of tang in the finish, perhaps from the wheat malt.

Bottle. Pours a deep garnet brown with a lacy orange head. Aroma of yeast, bread, fruit and caramel with a touch of herbal hops. Medium body with full carbonation. Taste of brown sugar, citrus, nuts, roasty malt and smidgeon of prune. Crisp finish with a touch of brown sugar and a twist of grapefruit.

12oz bottle from Bev Mo La Mesa. Pours a dark, hazy chocolate color. Light tan head... a little lacing. Aroma and flavor of roasted malts, chocolate, and some dark fruits. A very nice bock beer.

Pours a dark brown color with a nice initial off white head that faded to nothing quickly. Has a nice roasted malt aroma. Has a light dry roasted flavor with a nice little hop zing. Aftertaste is a little malty. Fairly smooth, medium body beer. Decent beer.

Clear garnet color with a nice tan head. Aroma is first a whiff of hops then a more typical toffee malty smell. medium body and smooth. Decent taste is of mildly sweet malts and molasses flavored bread. Very easy drinking. 3237

Rich Chocolately deep brown, but basically black in the glass with mild light tan head. Fairly light smell but it is a roasty, malty smell with chocolately, caramel hints. Rich and carbonated body, with mild sweetness, a slight hint of bitterness and a nice bitter-sweet mild coffee like finish. A touch bland, but my bottle might be quite old. One I’d love to have fresh. Still good nonethess and not a disappointment at all.
