Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Upon the beers disemboguing the 12-ounce stubby bottle a deep chocolate brown with a massive creamy dark tan head that ever so slowly erodes leaving a thick blanket of lace upon the glass. Nose has a molasses like sweetness, big malt aroma, hints of hops and a bit of chocolate to this old schnozzle, start is somewhat sweet with a good grain presence, the top moderate in feel. Finish is lightly acidic, the hops pleasant in the spiciness, very dry aftertaste, a throwback to the old Bock’s like Pabst.

Beer pours an attractive garnet color with a moderately dissipating beige colored head. Aroma is malty, spicy and just a little dusty. Flavor is quite nice with a nice, rich chocolate maltiness and a very nice complex spiciness. Just a touch of wheat flavor as well. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. I must admit to being a fan of this beer as it is my second sixer.

Pours very dark with a reddish tinge, beige head. Caramel with burnt chocolate in the nose. Sweet malt with dark chocolate and an almost burnt roasted flavor. Finishes with a hoppiness that was suprising

Dark color with pleasing carbonation and a rocky mocha head. Aroma of caramel with notes of cardboard. Started off with a very chilled sample, yet lovely carmel flavorings still leaked out. Crisp caramel throughout the session with a burnt finish and balanced sweetness. Very impressed with this latest selection from Anchor.

Bottle bought in the Mitra drinks shop, a 90 seconds walk from the place where I spend my working hours. Dark brown color. Lasting creamy head. Coffee, caramel and chocolate in the aroma. Malty flavor with chocolate, blackcurrant (Cascade hops?), roasted malt, grapes and laurel. Hints of coffee. Medium bodied. Not a bock beer like German or Dutch bocks I’ve tasted. Nevertheless a fine and tasty beer.

Poured a very dark brown with a slight reddish tint. Aroma of dark fruits and chocolate with undertones of hops. Roasty flavors with some light chocolate. Semi-dry with a mild bitter finish.

Ft. Myers, Fl. - Total Wines - 12 oz bottle. Finally found this elusive brew from Anchor - one of the only ones I am missing. Very dark brown - almost black pour with a decent sized mocha colored head. Pleasant wort-like aroma with some dates and raisin notes. Good, solid rib-sticking bock flavor with brief hints of licorice, raisins, baked brown bread and a brief hint of chocolate. Thickish mouthfeel for a bock Solid, as expected.
