Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Bottle from dickinsonbeer. Thanks! Very dark brown. Very small head. Aroma is heavy molasses , dark roasted malts, and a bit of caramel. Medium bodied, flavors are less pronounced than nose--very roasty, molasses again, coffee grounds. Overall, enjoyable, but lacks the sweetness I like in a bock. Very happy to get to try this one though. Great Label. I guess I just like goats.

Dark brown with a thick tan head. Heavy aroma of molasses, toasty malt, and bread. More molasses in the taste, but accompanied by cocoa and nuttiness. Very rich and heavy mouthfeel. Nice.

I had heard that this was something special, but now that I’ve tried it I’m not all that impressed. Sure it’s well balanced, with some gentle semi-sweet malt notes, more grainy than anything, and some well blended hops, and yes it’s tasty, but nothing extraordinary. I’m sure I’ll enjoy all 6, but will probably forget about it soon after.

Bottle... poured deep ruby with a nice beige head, nice lacing. Fruity aroma with also sweet, cocoa malts. Full, creamy palate with flavors of toasty malts, pistachios, fruit and a little floral presence from some hops in the finish.

sticky aftertaste. Quite heavy for a ’spring’ bock. Otherwise a rather pleasant beer for a lazy saturday afternoon.

Deep ruby/brown with a towering, thick, beige head. Caramel, fruity, malty, toffee, and a bit nutty aroma. Body is a little thiner than I expected. Was hoping for a little more intense flavor, but it’s good regardless. Nutty, toffee, caramel, malts, and a little fruit. A very drinkable bock, and isn’t that the only thing that matters?

Bottle: Dark mahoghany/ruby colored pour with a large beige head. Nose is rich with malt and dark fruits, rather sweet. Thick body reveals tastes of dark fruits, raisons, prunes, wine, and a rich maltiness. Sweet, yet swirling in flavor. Balanced at the same time.

Draft at the local tonight with dinner. appearance number is somewhat skewed since it arrived in my ceramic mug from the mug club. The head was nice and foamy though. I was expecting a bit more nuttiness in the nose but recieved a fair portion of caramel. Body is full and rich. Chocolate malts with a sprinkling of instant hot chocolate greet the tounge and surround it with plentiful indulgance. A crisp dry finish offsets the buffalo chicken sangwich nicely.
