| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 25, 2006 Pours a five finger tan head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Opaque black/brown color. Light carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Molasses nose. Starts with a roasted chocolate/burnt oak flavor, finish is dry bitter chocolate. Really this is a bock with balls. $1.55 for a 12oz bottle from Liquid Solutions Tigard, Or. SledgeJr (3005), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 9, 2006 On tap at the brewery tour. Dark, dark brown with a dark tan head. Medium-sized head. When held to the sunshine on Mariposa Street, you can see magenta highlights. Microtrabeculae of very tiny fine bubbles. I get a bit of grape Kool-Ade aroma. The grape popsicle flavor also emerges from the heavily malty body. Medium sweetness. Chocolate and roasted flavors. At mid point, the head and lacing is thin. The finish is a nice tart taste on the sides of the tongue- sort of like a bittersweet chocolate. I’d say that I’ve tasted this in a previous Christmas beer from Anchor, but without any of the spices. Not very bock-like at all. Much more ale in its palate. Malty aroma and grapenuts at warm final swirling. 0o9i (338), Reno, Nevada, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 16, 2005 Bottle discovered at Florian’s in Truckee, CA. Thanks for having this! Clear, but so dark that it’s opaque unless held up to light. A unique magenta-red color in more standard indoor lighting. Topped with a light brown head of creamy carbonation and medium-large in size, this baby can lace! She does so in medium to thin sheets, completely coating the glass with a head that is fully lasting. Aroma is yeasty sweet with roasted caramel, honey, fresh baked banana bread when you cut it open, dark fruits, chocolate and a hint of alcohol. Body is medium with tons of soft, foamy carbonation giving it the allusion of a full body and leaving the mouth pleasantly dry. Flavor is loaded with dark, roasted and burnt fruits. Wow! Malty, but not sweet. Prune is big, with a tart plumb flavor and a finish of roasted, burned hazlenuts and fruit that is lightly bitter. Rich chocolate undertones remind me of "Godiva Belgian Dark" ice cream. Well balanced, complex. Hopefully I can buy more on Tuesday. Becomes noticably alcoholic as it warms, and somewhat harsh...I had anticipated improvement as it warmed--considering how dark it is--but I was wrong. Similar to their porter and quite enjoyable. Old Ale + Porter = Anchor Bock, eh? Saarlander (1589), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 11, 2007 From the cryptic bottling code on back, I believe this was packaged in December, 2006. Pours a deep black with a solid, one-finger tan head. Caramel and raisins, sweet chocolate and plums rise from the tulip. Very nice and complex aroma for a fairly small beer. The body is medium with chewy carbonation. It explodes with bittersweet chocolate, fudge, raisans, bourbony plums, chocolate-covered cherries, the list goes on. This one really surprised me. Great stuff. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

Aroma was roasted malts some nutty aspect to it and chocolate. Flavor was much the same some vinous to it. Finished a bitter pine maybe. Solid beer. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 11, 2006 12oz bottle via trade with JoeMcPhee! - Thanks Joe! - Pours a beautiful dark mahogony with ruby highlights and a nice tan creamy head. Aromas of sweet caramel malts, raisin, and some light coffee. Flavor is caramel, raisin, a touch of chocolate, quite malty with some delightful dark fruit notes as well. Palate is smooth and creamy without much carbonation and medium body. Finishes with a fruity aftertaste. This is really good and probably my favorite bock of all time.
