Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future. Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness. For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.

Bottle at Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Need I say it’s brown? Probably not. But I just did. Big head, too. Lovely strong fruitcake and treacle aroma. Expected this to be thick and full bodied but actually it’s watery and with a short finish. A tad disappointed with this.

Poured from bottle. Has a nutty aroma. Pours a clear dark red. Has a light bitter taste with a hint of sweet at the finish. Medium body and creamy texture. A really nice brew, with more complexity than most.

A little roasted malt in the aroma. The taste is of dark fruits, a little sweet, soy and coffee. Okay bitterness that fills the mouth for a long while. The beer did not appeal to me at all. You could drink it but not enjoy it. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Drink cool 10-12°C Eye: Pours a hazy reddish-brown color with a small white to beige head which dissipates slowly but steadily. Not much carbonation though. oily texture while pouring in the glass. Nose: nuts, sweet and sour candy, raisins, red berries, yeasty notes. When the beer gets warmer there are, and don’t take this the wrong way - hints of gravy. Mouth: fruit bread/cake with candied fruit, nuts as well, slightly yeasty. Palate: strong coffee and chocolate malts but also hops. yeasty touch still there. nicely balanced and roasted nuts. slight Ovomaltine notes with milk as well. Overall: My second Anchor beer tasting and no surprise for me. Not too strong, nicely balanced, just a very nice brown ale which I’ll definitely have again. I especially like the fact, that there’s something left after filling a 0.33l dimple glass :-). A really great beer.

Un bombón floral de naranja y fresas ácidas con un delicioso punto de azahar. Paladar bien construido, tostado y refrescante al tiempo.
