3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Deweys Pizza in Edwardsville. Darker brown and clear. This beer was full of nuts that were nicely complex. Roasted malts were secondary. Later some gentle citrus andbittering hops came out. A pleasant and sweet brown.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
THOUGHTS: Very malty and a lightly citric and tropical fruit like hop presence that actually compliments the sweet malts instead of counter balancing with bitterness. Just enough bitterness to keep it from becoming cloying. Very easy to drink. Nice to see Anchor finally starting to put out some new beers. Lots of hop flavor, but barely any hop bitterness.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium, reddish brown with a large meringue like, tan head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma had moderate to heavy cookie, nutty malt, molasses, caramel and slight milk chocolate; light citrus and tropical fruit hops; maple syrup; berry and hints of cola. The initial flavor was moderately sweet, slightly bitter and lightly acidic; while the finish was moderate to heavily sweet, light to moderately acidic and lightly bitter with an average duration. There was nutty malt, caramel, molasses, hints of coffee and chocolate, light citrus hops, tropical fruit hops and even some berry. The light to medium body was a little syrupy and then fairly dry with fizzy carbonation and a ever so slightly astringent and ever so slightly metallic finish.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
(bottle) Pours a clear dark reddish brown color with a large tan head that retains perfectly. Aroma is lightly toasty, faint dark chocolate, and a fair amount of hops that reminds me a bit of chewing gum for some reason. I also get a whiff of something tropical. An odd combo. here. Flavor is surprisingly "fresh" tasting, with the hops regrettably stealing the show from the malts. There’s a hint of toastiness that attempts to break through the hops, but it’s quickly tramped down by the hops. There’s an odd consistency to this beer as it’s like a hop syrup, and the flavor just sticks to the tongue. No pleasant toasty and roasty malts to speak of. Just this odd faintly tropical, chewing gum-like flavor. Unusual depth of flavor indeed. Mouthfeel is fairly full and carbonation is pretty high. I have enjoyed several citra-hopped beers, but I might have to make a mental note that they don’t jive with me in brown ales.

Torpedo bottle. Pours a clear and very dark brown with a loose tan head and light stringy lace. Nice rich brown bread and molasses nose, showing just a tiny twang of aluminum. Creamy medium body with light but pleasant carb. Rich toasty bready mid palate with some very light molasses notes, but overall very clean and thoroughly attenuated. Light brown bread finish. Pleasant.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle thanks to my brother. Deep brown body with a light tan head. Rich carmel head with a little bit of dough. The taste is like sweet cola and notes of potato. There is also some tobacco and cherry hinted coffe. The body is fairly carbonated. A good brown ale, but a little roasty and harsh approaching a porter.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s, Corona CA. Interesting brown ale. The hop character was a little odd at first, but seemed to fit the style. Seemed fairly light and not extremely roasty. The uniqueness gave it an odd drinkability.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From bottle @Copenhagen Beer Festival 2012. Clear reddish brown body, under a finger of beige head. Complex aroma featuring bakery, ripe citrus fruits, toasted malts and some fine grassy hops. Taste is much the same. Balanced with well integrated malt and hop flavors. A well-crafted and utterly drinkable Brown.

Bottle. Poured a reddish brown. Medium head. Big malt aroma with caramel, chocolate, roasty, molassis, brown sugar, coconut. Light sweetness, light bitter. Medium body, creamy palate. Slight chaulk taste at end. Carbonation on softer side. One of the better browns I have had.
