Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future.
Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness.
For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.
Ingredients: Water, barley malt, hops.

Pours dark brown copper color with a foamy khaki head. Aroma is metallic roasted malt. Taste is bitter roasted malt with a hop presence and some metallic spice in the finish and some dark pitted fruit too. Palate is thin to medium and finishes dry. Decent beer that has a good roasty malt presence.

Roasted choco-caramel aroma. Clear yet heavy looking dark brown appearance with mild lacing. Oaty, malty taste with just enough contrasting hops. Foamy medium body, seems like a draught pour. Reminds one of old English style brown ales...only not the crap ones.

SMAK: Na pocz?tku chmiele ameryka?skie z wyczuwalny cytrusami. Pó?niej dochodzi do g?osu slodowo??, taka troch? karmelowo-landrynkowa. Wed?ug mnie troch? za s?odko. ZAPACH: Cytrusy skontrowane slodowo?ci?. WYGLAD: Br?z, ciemny bursztyn. Piana zbita, trzymaj?ca si? do?? d?ugo. Pod koniec zostaje cienka obwodka. Przyzwoite piwo, ale jak na ameryka?ska przysta?o spodziewa?em si? troch? wi?cej.
