COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future. Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness. For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.

12 oz bottle purchased as a single at Gomers in Lees Summit, Missouri. 2AD (Bottled on April 4, 2012) perforated stamp on the label. The pour is light haze brown copper with a two inch light tan head that is quite lasting. The aroma is fruit caramel sweet malt, along with a touch of yeastiness. The taste is nutty malt, only a bit of the malt fruit sweetness of the nose, along with sort of an off grain flavor. The palate is light to medium bodied, carbonation level pretty high, sweetness of dried fruit comes out a bit in the finish. Just ok.

330 ml bottle.
Pours a dark amber colour with a beige creamy head which settles quite quickly. Aroma of fresh floral hops, chocolate and nuts. Flavour of toasted malts, chocolate, sweet caramel, bitter floral hops, pine, citrus and some juicy fruitiness. Medium bodied, very smooth mouthfeel and a slightly tart, rich, chocolate and malty finish. Not over-the-top in any way and really pleasant.

Bottle. Dark brown, hazy, small to average and fully diminishing light brown head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma, caramel and light roasted malt with light bread, light tropical fruitiness and light piney hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and caramel sweetish flavor, light fruitiness and light roasted malt with faint hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, some caramel and light roasted malt, faint piney hoppyness. Caramel sweetish brown ale – that’s it.

Bottle. Moderate roasted and nutty for the malt, light to moderate pine for the hops, light earth for the yeast, withhints of toffee and paper. head is average to large, frothy/fizzy, light beige with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is sparkling clear deep mahogany. Flaovr is slightly sweet, moderately acidic and sour to start, then finishes lightly acidic and mlightly to moderately bitter. Palate is medium, watery with a lively carbonation. Hoppier than most Brown Ales, but that’s what sets this beer apart for me.

inbirraveritas (1285) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JUL 17, 2012
355 ml bottle. Poured a clear copper brown with a medium sized creamy tan head. Caramel malty start followed in the middle by toast, mild chocolate and tart citrusses. Slick, light sticky texture. Bittersweet, rounded finish escorted by nuts and citrusses underpainted by some notes of alcohol. Enjoyable and easy drinkable brew.

Bottle. Pours a deep coppery clear body with a medium white head. A bit lighter in color than I’d expect from a brown ale, but hey. Aroma is toffee, sweet caramel, nuts and hints of almonds. Nice. Taste is burnt sugar, toffee, milk chocolate, hints of nuts and salty licorice. Creamy, full-bodied palate. A very nice brown ale from Anchor, whom I’ve been waiting for a while to be impressed by lately.

Draft at Deweys Pizza in Edwardsville. Darker brown and clear. This beer was full of nuts that were nicely complex. Roasted malts were secondary. Later some gentle citrus andbittering hops came out. A pleasant and sweet brown.
