Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future.
Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness.
For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.
Ingredients: Water, barley malt, hops.

Real nice. Has a lil sourness and minimal bittering but an aluminum funk aftertaste. All in all it was good, I liked it, Nice reddish brown color dark fruit with aluminum foil taste, and aroma was slight so not much there, it was good overall. Different. try it

Bottle at home, from my Minneapolis Town Hall glass. Pours deep clear chestnut brown, very deep and reddish colour. Thin off-white head, great lacing. Nose is toasty, with red rope licorice, cherry bark, light roast, and smoke. Flavours of red candies, rubber, smoke, light fruit, big Dutch licorice note. Very interesting, but I wouldn’t want more than one.

15 cl. draft @ Delirium Hoppy Loft // clear ruby brown with a small mocha head // nose is excess of yeast, lots of glue in here, malts, coffee & plenty of berries // taste is milk chocolate, glue, sweet berries, sweeter coffee, nuts, milky, toffee & nuts, there is some hops in here but they are mostly berried here // medium bodied, glue qualities pop up here as well, medium carb. // quite enjoyable

0.355l bottle. Dark ruby/brown body with a brown head. Very complex aroma with coffee, raisins, plums and some citrusy hoppyness. Plums, yeast and some toffee in the flavor with some citruses. Awesome beer!

Draft @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Brune opaque, col crémeux léger café au lait. Arôme est malté grillé léger, notes houblonnées citronnées. Palais, malté poussiéreux et levure avec une pointe d’amertume persistance et bien agréable restant dans ce profile très américain de brown ale. Pointe d’épice de caramel avec un fin côté biscuité et en retrait un houblon frais et citronné ’citra’.

Aroma is malty and sweet with nuts and toffee. Flavour has nuts, some caramel, toffee and roasted malt. Some solvent-like alcohol in the finish. Your typical Brown Ale.

Aroma is toffee, chocolate, raisins and nutty. Poured a deep mahogany color with a big and pillowy off light tan head. Taste is woodsy, toffee, raisins and coffee blend with slight bitter finish (not overly so).

12 oz bottle purchased as a single at Gomers in Lees Summit, Missouri. 2AD (Bottled on April 4, 2012) perforated stamp on the label. The pour is light haze brown copper with a two inch light tan head that is quite lasting. The aroma is fruit caramel sweet malt, along with a touch of yeastiness. The taste is nutty malt, only a bit of the malt fruit sweetness of the nose, along with sort of an off grain flavor. The palate is light to medium bodied, carbonation level pretty high, sweetness of dried fruit comes out a bit in the finish. Just ok.
