Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future. Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness. For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.

Ugh...a barely drinkable brown ale. Aroma was OK but a little nasty. There was roasted malt and caramel but a terrible vomit smell that came in and out. Pour was a nice enough medium brown with a one finger off white head. Taste wasn’t very good. The aroma of the vomit was unavoidable. There was roasted caramel malt and a staleness to the flavor but it was hard to find anything enjoyable. Decent carbonation. Halfway through the beer I was wishing I had something else (which is rare)

Reddish brown colour, tan head. Aroma of caramel, malts, little fruity hops. Sweet malty flavour, caramel. Finish caramel, very light on the hops.
Quite OK, even though brown ale isn’t one of my favourite styles.

Reddish brown with tan foamy head. Malty, granola, dried fruit and light caramel aromas. It is quite sweet, but finishes with a light bitter/sour fruit flavor. Medium body. I was hopinhg for better, only mediocre.

Pours a translucent, reddish copper with a thin, tab head that fades. Moderate lacing. Sweet, slightly fruity aroma. Light, effervescent mouthfeel - a little thin. Light, slightly odd flavor. Raisin? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
