3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Interesting piney hop and sugary aromas, pineapple, plums. Dark translucent brown, creamy 1-2cm. head. Initial is dark brown sugar, and then the hops come slicing through sharply. Some metallic notes in mid. Light body. Very well-balanced beer. Drinkable, tasty stuff.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle Code of 1SP (2011, September, 17th, I think); Sampled July 2012; purchased from Beverages 4 Less
A vigorous pour into my small St. Sebastiaan tulip produces a fat, two-finger thick, pale brown tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a dark, concentrated brown color that shows a brilliantly clear, ruby-red / brown color when held up to the light. The aroma smells of sweet, raisin leaning crystal malt, ample toasted whole grain brown bread, a peppery herbal note, and an ample English Biscuit like character. There is quite a bit of fruit character in the nose; ample notes of non-deScript, dried berries, and definite currant notes play quite a role here. The malt character has quite a bit of complexity to it, somehow spicy and toasted, but much more so than I can describe; it seems that some light oxidation may be setting in that is accentuating this character.
The beer is lightly sweet up front, this picks up some toasted character towards the middle and the finish is dominated by a whole grain and oxidized malt character that provides a rich nutty note, perhaps a touch of madeira, and a slight chalky note. There is an herbal character here, as well as a light bitterness that helps provide some contrast to the dominant malt character. The body of this beer has a certain heft to it, but is certainly not so much that this does not remain a quaffable brew. Soft citrus and peach like notes are noticeable up front before a more herbal hop character takes hold, but the citrus is never completely dropped as it lingers lightly through to the finish.
I am a bit surprised that this has started to oxidize already, but having said that, the oxidation helps to boost the malt complexity at this point. A solid beer, but one that I would have still liked to have tried fresh.

Real nice. Has a lil sourness and minimal bittering but an aluminum funk aftertaste. All in all it was good, I liked it, Nice reddish brown color dark fruit with aluminum foil taste, and aroma was slight so not much there, it was good overall. Different. try it

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle at home, from my Minneapolis Town Hall glass. Pours deep clear chestnut brown, very deep and reddish colour. Thin off-white head, great lacing. Nose is toasty, with red rope licorice, cherry bark, light roast, and smoke. Flavours of red candies, rubber, smoke, light fruit, big Dutch licorice note. Very interesting, but I wouldn’t want more than one.

Draft @ Delirium Hoppy Loft.
