Color caramelo oscuro, espuma beige. Aromas intensos de caramelo, azúcar moreno y ligero lupulo. En boca tiene un inicio dulce ligero al que acompañan sabores tostados y caramelo, que terminan en un final lupulado ligeramente cítrico.

bottle, thanks to my beer buddy cheap. Pours dark brown with thick, tan head. Aromas of toffee, floral hops, toffee, and bready malts. Complexity of citrus, toffee, bread, malts and hints of nutty flavors. Excellent brown ale. I have not had a bad brew from this brewery. Worth the try!! Thanks Cheap!!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
This brown ale looks deep, dark brown in color, almost garnet at times, and isn’t completely opaque. It’s transparent enough to see through, but its darkness hinders your attempts. Its head is light brown and short-lived, and no head retention happens here... no carbonation, no lively appearance. It’s simply an ale with what appears to be roasted malts, some heavily caramelized, maybe even burnt caramel flavors, and, knowing the brewer, the beer is likely to showcase some hop character through all of this. This is all just my guess, pre-taste, pre-aroma, of course.
And guess what - it smells and tastes just like it looks. Highly caramelized malts, slightly burnt, dominate the nose, with a touch of earthy, spicy hops. It could be mistaken for a burnt amber/red ale just from the aroma. Even though a touch of roasted/chocolate malts come through in the aroma, they mostly show up in the flavor. The palate is clean, soft, and mellow, with a somewhat sweet overall flavor, nicely-balanced with heavily caramelized malts, light chocolate, and a echo of roasted malts. Hops really seem to play an interesting part in the beer’s flavor as well, offering an acidic, sweet character that really cuts through the (thin) maltiness very well. It finishes clean, with a touch of bitterness and an almost traditional brown ale-style maltiness. There’s something fruity about this, though, reminiscent of pit fruits and beet juice. Huh.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
500ml bottle from IPB.
Appearance : Deep clear amber with medium foamy head. Moderate head retention.
Aroma : Rich malty toffee. Chewy biscuits notes. Light hint of spices. Light hops.
Taste : Brown caramel malt. Toffee and caramel. Tasty chewy malts but not too sweet. Finish is caramel with bready pumpernickel malt. Light hops here and there.
Palate : Average carbonation. I think the style would have called for a slightly softer carbonation. Would have improved the drinkability.
Overall : Pretty nice drink. Fairly drinkable. Really nice malt delivery, rich and chewy malts. Hops are pretty subtle in aroma which is why I don’t get the Citra choice. Seems like a waste of such a nice aroma hop. This is probably not as fresh as it could be so maybe a fresh bottle has more citra aroma.

On tap at the Anchor Brewery. Pours a dark brown. Almost sour taste, almost unfinished. Not that good.

Bottle. Cloudy brown pour with a thin off white head. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee, brown sugar and faint earthy hops. Medium bodied with a nice even yet sharp finish. Great American brown.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Toffee earth aroma, amazing yellow foam head, fairly clear brown/red, huge chocolate and toffee upfront for a brown ale, bordering on too much but still in bounds, palate lingering with earthy tones.
