COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future. Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness. For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.

Poured a medium brown with a small head. Had an upfront caramel with nutty flavor that rounded out into a more vegetable taste with dry hops.

Mahogany brown color, beige head. Caramel nose, burnt sugar, brown sugar, prunes, hints of coffee and wood. Sweet taste, rich malty, brown sugar, metallic note, lightly bitter finish. Medium to light body, soft carbonation, light prickling.

Bottle. Pours a clear brown producing a medium-sized, tan and lightly fluffy head. Lightly roasted and fairly sweet aromas. Hints of grass, heather-honey. Taste is lightly sweet with a lasting sweetness that’s barely rounded off into the aftertaste. Semi-dry and medium to light bodied. Just below avg co2 levels.

Light brown with deep garnet hues. Nose of caramel and brown sugar with mild nutty roast and faint spicy hopping. Flavor is cola and toasted malt witg brown sugar and caramel. Late mild hops that linger. Overall, mildly sweet. Some diacetyl.

25.2.2014. Dark brown with dense head. Great nose with ripe fruits, caramel malts, plums. Taste has ripe fruits, biscuit, slight plum, nuts. Malty finish. Freshness or sth would have been nice but decent brown ale.

0,355 l bottle from EDEKA Mohr, best before 11/2015. Clear, dark brownish red with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Intense aroma of molasses, toffee, dried plums and candy sugar. Very sweet taste of dried plums, molasses, blackcurrant, candy sugar and hints of coffee and chocolate. Short, slightly bitter finish which serves as a sufficient counterpart to the sweetness. Full bodied, oily and chewy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Much on the sweet side but I like it. Huge aroma, tasty and a satisfying mouthfeel. Good!

355ml bottle at home. Dark amber brown with a small off-white head. Light to medium body with low carbonation. Pretty sweet with some bitter tones. Caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits, malts and spices. A tad too sweet for me.

12 oz. bottle at home. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a medium sized khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have mild roasted malts, caramel, brown sugar, light nutty character and some citrus hops, interesting to try, but browns are not my favorite and I am not the biggest fan of roasted malt and citrus.

Crimson, strong beige head. Roastiness, toffee, dark fruit on nose. Full-bodied, dark fruit, caramel, coffee, roastiness. Finishes lightly roasty. Very nice.

Kauge (536) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - FEB 26, 2015
Bottle as a gift from Helsinki. BB 4/2016. Translucent reddish brown colour. Head is big and fluffy, colour is beige. Nose is quite interesting: nuts, figs, prunes, fruitcake, marmalade, faint roastiness, and also some more grassy than citrusy hops. Taste is less intriguing, while similar, it has this dry metallic thing going on that I can’t enjoy much. On the palate it’s soft and somewhat thin, with very little carbonation. Finish is abrupt and watery. Overall... Rather strange. But not bad.
