COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future. Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness. For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.

A caramel, molasses nose. Pours a translucent amberish brown with a mostly lasting tan head and some lacing. The taste is much like the nose - caramel and a roasty quality up front with hints of nuttiness and biscuit. The finish is slightly bitter with notes of molasses. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, while molasses is not one of my favorite flavors in beer, the molasses taste here was subdued and added to the enjoyment of this beer.

12oz Bottle. The pour was a dark caramel brown with a large (3-4 finger) light brown sudsy head that lasted pretty much throughout, reducing slightly to a large cap and had good spotty lacing.

The aroma was of a sweet toasted dark bread malt, light resin hops and a doughy yeast along with notes of toffee, coffee, and dark fruit (plums).

The taste was lightly malty sweet with a pinch of toffee from the get go, progressing with a light roasty coffee presence and a mildly bitter hoppy ending. The flavor lasted an average time following the swallow, with a mildly roasty sweet fruity taste left behind.

Mouthfeel was almost medium in body with a thin dry texture and a mild carbonation.

Overall this was a very tasty and well balanced Brown Ale, which had a smooth and roasty aftertaste that just left you wanting another sip... www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews

So for a regular old brown ale, this thing is pretty decent on any level. I may not love it, but it’s got some intensity, medium to full body.... It pours deep and murky, dark brown with a light khaki head that’s holding on halfway through the pint. The aroma is better than most brown ales, with a nice complexity. Caramel sweetness mixed with a mild zest, chocolate notes and creamy smooth balance... medium black licorice (and i hate black licorice, but it totally works here), also light hopping notes, mild faint citrus. Flavor is full and healthy, sweet caramel and mild, mild bittering hops and mild noticeable citrus. Chocolate presence but not overpowering... and still finishing with a light caramel note. Really really enjoyable. The body is a fuller side of medium, but not overdone. Honestly, this is probably one of the better brown ales I’ve had. Seriously, well done Anchor. You guys nailed it.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a nice reddish brown with a four inch tan head that lasts. Taste is of malt, caramel, hops, citrus, resin, wood and grass. Nice, warming aroma. Has a decent body with a warming finish. Good, but not as drinkable as what I’d like.

Bottle from AmmersinO, Vienna. Dark copper, brownish, clear body, with medium, creamy, beige head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruits, roast, some citrus. Tastes of caramel, red and dark fruits, banana, toast, citrus. Mouthfeel is medium, creamy, with a moderate carbonation and it finishes fruity, medium bitter, slightly roasty, slightly sour. Very good, complex, greatly balanced and quaffable! One of the best brown ales I’ve had so far.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein dunkel rötlichbraunes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, dunkle reife Früchte, Karamell. Geschmack röstmalzig, Karamell, dunkle Früchte.

Not a big of Brown Ales but a fan of Anchor. Sweet malty and nutty taste. Overall: 11/20.

Dark brown, beautiful fine beige creamy head. Very sweet aroma of malts, ripe dark fruits (plum, raisins, dates), caramel and some sweet red wine note. Taste adds a nice toastiness balancing the fruity sweetness. Slightly hoppy finish.

Opaque brown with a reddish hue. Nice sized head. Extremely pungent aroma consisting of malt, light roast, caramel, and hops. Complex and absolutely delectable flavour. Malt, roast, and some lingering dried fruit intertwined with citrus. Smooth and creamy. One of my favourites.

A dark red, cloudy beer with a firm compact layer of foam, like a stout. In the aroma are the hints of chocolate and caramel. It tastes however sweet and like licorice, and this moves on into a subtile bitter aftertaste.
