3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark, with small lacy head.
Aroma is sweet, has ripe berries like anchor chirstmas beers.
Flavor is really sweet too with notes of cherries and chocolate.
Complex but not exactly to my taste.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
33cl bottle at the Underdog, Athens. Pours coppery brown, with small creamy diminishing off-white head. Medium body, oily texture, soft and silky mouthfeel, fair lacing, average carbonation. Rich aromas of dried fruits, like plums, raisins, toasted barley, hints of grapes, somehow winey. The soft bitter touch of citra hops adds some twisted sourness, and hints of lemon peel reveal as time goes by. Very complex, but also very balanced, not the average brown ale. Tasty, drinkable, enjoyable ale. Also a rare find in Greece. I loved it!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Brown color, slightly hazy appearance. Thick and stable beige head. Beer was bit on the warmer side to let the aroma stand out. Wonderful aroma of burnt caramel, toffee, dried prunes and appricots. Palate is normal given its ABV. Hops contribute to complexity with aroma and taste. Very mild bitterness ending. Full complexity with low alcohol and plateau.
Original and enjoyed.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Maker: Anchor Brewing Company, San Francisco, USA ***
Beer: Anchor Brekle’s Brown (bottled, unfiltered, 355ml) ***
Style: Brown Ale ***
ALC.VOL.: 6.0% ***
"Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future.
Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness." [brewery note] ***
Colour: Deep mahogany, slightly hazy, with a medium light beige head. ***
Nose: Burnt caramel, hazelnuts, light citrusy/estery note. ***
Texture: Medium body, hardly watery. Modest carbonation. ***
Taste: Dominant burnt caramel and licorice at first, with a balancing light citrus note. Cane sugar. Middle retains the burnt caramel, but drier than before. Citrus. Finish returns to cane sugar and licorice, now sweetish. After taste again is burnt caramel, molasses. ***
Impressions: Another great beer from the seemingly infallible Anchor Brewing Company. Great depth and balance, characterful brown ale (much more so than most English samples). Why can’t all beers be this good?!
