COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future. Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness. For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.

Well balanced nose with fruitcake sweetness from the malt (with added malt loaf) and a subtle underpinning of hop tang. Pours a deep brown with a firm faun head and an inner ruby fire. Flavour is some salted caramel malt with a rum n raisin icecream finish. Well balanced and pleasant but a touch thin and a touch bland.

Clear copper to rosewood body, tall tan / light beige standing head, thick lacing. Aroma; berries, hops, dark malts, fruits, toffee fudges and dusty meadow. Taste; dark malts, soft hops, prune juice, chocolate. Finishes to the chocolate side. Feels well bodied, soft and creamy in the mouth, quite delicate. Overall very good.

Bottle. Pours in dark ruby body with medium tan head. Aroma has nutty, caramel, brown sugar, pretty strong. Taste has high caramel sweetness followed with high earthy bitterness, pretty floral in the after taste with long bitterness finish. Light fruity with really toffee character. Body is medium, high carbonation.

Butelka. Wzorowe Browl Ale.

12 oz. bottle from BevMo. The nose reveals a bit of toasty caramel and citrus. The bready and nutty maltiness jumps out in front with subtle floral and fruity hoppiness, probably from the Citra hops, in the background. The opposite of so many of today’s hopped up brews. The creamy light roasted malt and the citrus hops marry perfectly. Slight bitterness in the finish. Very tasty! I think I’ll have another...

On tap - This is a really nice, flavorful brown ale that’s very approachable for the non-beer geek, yet still pleasing to us that are a little persnickity. The aroma carries a nice earthy quality to it, some choco-malt notes and a citrusy aroma that was there, but kept under wraps. Lightly nutty, earthy, cocoa and mild citrus notes in the finish round out the flavors on this quite nicely. I would definitely get this again.
