COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s unique recipe for Brekle’s Brown—a tip of the hat to our first brewmaster—looks to both the past and the future. Mark’s special blend of roasted malts, inspired by the all-malt brown ales in Anchor’s brewing archives, gives Brekle’s Brown its coppery brown color and its unusual depth of flavor—richness and complexity without heaviness. For brewing and dry hopping, Mark has chosen a single, American hop variety called Citra. The subtly entrancing flavors and aromas of this distinctive new hop perfectly complement the unique maltiness of Brekle’s Brown.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy copper brown with thick and stable off-white head. Intense aroma of malt and caramel with subtle notes of roast. Sweetish, malty flavour with notes of roast, dried fruit, caramel and nuts. Dryish aftertaste. Low carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. A very decent Brown Ale.

I had this at Global Brew. Aroma is nothing special. Not a big fan. I would prefer not to have this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Good Spirits Co., Glasgow, Scotland. Quite a nice little ale; very sweet aroma with malt, quite a complex mouthfeel and taste featuring a smooth malt and caramel and dry coffee like finish, fairly wet and tin on the mouth. A nice little beer!

12oz bottle, Maruhn, BB 04/2014. - Expressive, modern and delicately composed brown making surprising use of Citra as single hop.
Nose of burnt toffee, liquorice and sparkling citrus-infused foam. Taste is layered and well-composed, consisting of the more tradional but lively (roasted chest)nut, raisin and caramel aromas pitched against a dry mf and palate with the astringent acidity of tanned leather, which I first thought a result of the roasted malts, but probably derives from the Citra spice adding a refreshing zesty layer to a rich and creamy brown ale. Stylewise brown ale, the wet labrador of dark beers, willl not soon become my favourite, but the innovative skill that went into this rich & balanced brew is to be admired.

Brown pour. Interesting brew in smell and taste. Lots of yeast notes, dark fruits, caramel. Thinner. Not a huge fan.

I can’t believe how low this is rated here. One of the deepest browns I have ever tasted. Sweet molasses on the nose with some caramel. Complex taste of sweet caramel and slight hops. About as far as you can push a brown flavor wise.
