(04.04.06) 330 mL green bottle consumed at the Rose Garden of Shamian Island, Guangzhou, China. Poured clear straw colored with large short lived white head. Frizzy carbonation. Sweetish skunk aroma. Light malt sweetness and corn flavor. Finished dry with light malt fade. Light bodied. Drinkable but still tasted like a generic Chinese lager. Nothing particularly memorable about this beer except that the beer was unusually frizzy (artificial carbonation?).

330 ml can, rating from old notes based on a can bought in Bali. Golden body with a descent but short valid white head. Weak aroma of straw and apple. Flavor like a typical low budget industrial pilsner, i.e. corn and malt with a fizzy, watery body. Actually a bit more bitterness than expected. Acceptable thirst-quencher in the heat, but noting more.

Golden color; poor head. Poor aroma and flavor, a bit oily. Not bitter enough. Halfway to a Strong Lager.

Bottled, China Town, Kaula Lumpur. Served in a hideous clear bottle, looking all the world piss, the beer doesn’t taste nearly as bad. Achieving a smooth smokey taste that whilst initially pleasing on the upside, is actually short lived. Rated in the back of a Malay taxi on the way back to the hotel the beer performed the job required of it.

Extra alcohol doesn't translate into extra taste necessarily. The climate demands something like this however and so it is enjoyable for that reason.

Anchor ice is one nice beer I used to drink when I lived in Malaysia. The high kick is a reason people like it.Smooth to drink, especially when it's kept ice-cool.

Can. Anchor Pils is all over Singapore, but I never saw the Ice version until I got to Malaysia. Given the availability of other high abv beers in Malaysia, it seems like they prefer more kick to their beer. I thought Anchor Ice had more aroma and flavor but the high alcohol hurt it overall. It had a nice white head on the pour.
