Tangy hoppy presence. Subtle malt characteristics. Smooth and easy to put down. Well done all the way around.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very good heavy hop aroma, with a slightly piney aroma. Poured with anaverage but rocky head. The head was white with excellent lacing that lasted for some time. Clear with an amber color but it had small particles that come from being an older beer. Flavor was a nice med hop that had a moderate bitter finish that lasted for some time. Med ium body that had a slight astringent finish. This beer was old and I'd love to try a fresh version!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUN 15, 2004 One of my favorite everyday IPA's. Best on tap. This one seems to vary in its hop content. Goes from good amount to slap your grandmother hops from time to time. This surprises me coming from Anchor. Nice tartness, good finishing hops. Always a strong grapefruit tangy aftertaste. If Anchor only made this one, they'd still be legendary.

Nice head and lace. Golden body. Delisciously hoppy, well rounded, soft, smooth.

Not a ton of aroma, hints of hops, good bright copper color with lite off white head. Nice balace between the malt and the hop, but I was looking for that super hop to take control. Nice cream clean finish to a well made big bottled IPA.

bottled and on tap at the anchor brewery: this is a nice beer. refreshing with some sour aftertones. malt and hop balance and character show through like the original anchor steam. however, for an IPA quite suttle in the hop area. this isnt a bad thing it just is a bit more mellow then what the newer ones taste like. cool crisp and refreshing.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A very thirst quenching beer and one of the more balanced IPAs that I've had. Nice citric and piney nose, with a fruity/citric flavor. A good fruity flavor throughout. This one doesn't bombard our senses like Celebration Ale, but this one is more of the "everyday" IPA.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 23, 2005 It has a little bit of a bite, and the cascade hops are the primary influence, but it isn’t overbearing. There’s a muskyness in there . The light gold color is somewhat cloudy and the mouthfeel is initially medium, but it seems to morph into a full bodied brew while it sits in the mouth - it fizzes up and grows. It is fruity and very clean, but also dark and bitter - an interesting combonation. The head is huge and creamy, lacing the glass eternally. The color has just enough amber to let you know that it is not an average corporate beer. It is great overall, although I could see someone not liking the amount of hops, maybe.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured a nice golded yellow with a thick white head. Aroma was mainly of citrus fruits and hops. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Spices, orange peel, and hops on the tongue. This was a really nice beer.

I had this on draught at the brewery in SF. Easily the IPA I've ever had. Perfectly balanced. I recently tried this out of the bottle and was very disappointed. If you ever have the chance to tour the brewery, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
