Pours a clear light copper with a very thick foamy long-lasting white head. Nice hoppy aroma. Very hoppy taste with a bitter bite. Not bad at all.

sweet grapefruit aroma. Frothy white head. Really nice citrus hops that could probably stand a bit more malt.

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2005 This is a wonderful ale. Rich, cloudy with a strong but not overpowering hoppy flavour. Plus, as an added bonus, a lingering and wonderfully bitter aftertaste. A well crafted and absolutely delicious ale. Cheers to Anchor!

Very attractive pour. Medium golden color with a lively head with excellent retention and lace. Active visible carbonation. Aroma is pretty much all cascade hops. Taste is, you guessed it, all hops. Pretty full-bodied. There are some underlying flavors here besides grapefruit, but the hops smack me too hard to sort them out. Doesn't have the sourness of some of these super-hopped pale ales, which is pleasant. Detected hints of alcohol towards the end. Overall, I'm not feeling this one. It's great, just not THAT great. Perhaps I'm getting more cynical as I age.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours amber with an enthusiastic, foamy, lasting head that leaves good lacing. Grapefruit and pine needles in the aroma. Medium body, moderately carbonated. Pronounced flavour of—oh, I don’t know—Cascade hops, maybe? Well-integrated maltiness performs a balancing function, but this is secondary to providing a depth of flavour, I think. Pleasantly long, hoppy finish. I would guess that tastes have changed more than the beer. Enjoyable, appetizing, satisfying, and still a fine beer after all these years.

Crisp is one thing - this IPA is sharp! I've had many of the over-the-top imperial IPAs, and found that I prefer their higher levels of sweetness to soften the edges. This beer lacked any flavor of malts or yeast. This is a bath of cascade and grapefruit. This would be a good beer to pair with cajun or other spicy cuisine.

Cascade City! Slightly cloudy and dark yellow with a lasting white head. Big cascade aroma. Flavor is full of cascades. There is some malt under there and the brew is full bodied. Hops linger on the tongue.
