Quite citrusy and yeasty aroma. Light malts have just enough sweetness to bring out the citrus fruit flavors is the hops, but aren’t heavy or sticky. The impression you get is a crisp, relatively light and hoppy ale, though not really that hoppy in the grand scheme of west coast IPAs. I’m kinda a sucker for these hoppy and bitter APAs that push the threshold of IPA bitterness, but stay light and refreshing. The taste definitely reminds me of more old school stuff like SNPA or Full Sail, but Anchor seems to have gotten their formula right many years ago. Definitely eclipsed by newer, flashier hoppy ales from the west coast, but remains simple, balanced, and quite tasty in its own right. downender (2648), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 6, 2008 Bottle from Utobeer. Deep amber with a moderate white head. Big citrus and pine resin hop aroma with a touch of red currants. Fruity malt aroma, giving way to more hoppiness and a long dry finish. Good stuff. DarkBeer (47), Ohio, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 3, 2008 Pours hazy amber with white head. Nice grassy aroma. Flavor is slightly malty with citusy hop finish. Medium body with average carbonation. A decent session brew. This is a good gateway beer to introduce others to flavorful, hoppy craft brews. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 3, 2008 Curious as to why it is refered to as a steam on the bottle, but APA here. In all honesty, it tastes more like a hoppier pale ale. Anyway, great beer despite my confusion.
Pours a dim golden-orangeish colour with a fantastic head and subtle hop aroma. Taste is soft, citrusy slightly floral with an aroma of pine, grapefruit and cascade hops. Nice brew overall. jjuf1853 (482), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA

Hoppy through and through, this starts off with a bit of grapefruit before winding up floral and grassy with a medium bitter finish. Aftertaste is slight citrus. Body is good, flavors are bold and well balanced. Archibaldo de la Cruz (424), Finland
