Originally brewed in 1975 to commemorate Paul Revere's ride, this brew is a heavily hopped ale (Cascade hops) with a copper color and a hoppy nose.

So, this is the famous Anchor Liberty Ale? The original hoppy American pale ale? The beginning of the craft beer revolution? This sweet, sugary, pale malt infested, lager-like stuff? You’re kidding me, right? Ok, so the aroma has some citric notes blended in with the generic fruits and the wet paper, but to call this "heavily hopped" and mean it, you’d probably need a time machine set to 1975. The flavour is a tad more interesting, there are some stingy floral and herbal stuff in the finish, and the citrus is more evident. The finish is also moderate bitter, and back in the good old days that was probably what it took. This one might have been a great beer once, but today if feels under-hopped and totally and utterly uninteresting.

355ml bottle from the LCBO. Gold body, slight amber tint, with a thin off-white head. Citrus and peach are present in the aroma, noble hop floral aroma as well. Medium-light bitterness. Thin body, very sessionable compared to many pale ales. Medium carbonation.

355ml bottle. Pours a solid amber with an off-white head. Pine aroma. Robust hops to taste but reasonably smooth with a nice bitter finish. Nice beer.

Bottle. Slightly bitter with only mild hops. A good flavor, just very weak overall. I guess I’m spoiled by Victory brews. Unimpressive.

Clear dark golden with white lacing head. Faint aroma, a little citrus, and some sweet fruit. Decent hoppy flavor and a mild bitterness in the finish.

Bottle. Pours clear golden with thin off-white head. Lots of lacing. Hoppy, fruity, flowery nose. Taste likewise, peaches, green apples, a bit of pine, grassy, some malty caramel, chemicals. Taste is light sweet to dry, medium bitter. Light astringency on the palate, medium high carbonation, watery. Long chemical bitter finish. Weird.

Pours a bit paler than most IPAs. Smell is cleaner and less bitter than your average IPA. More piney, less grapefruit/citrus. Taste is similar in that its not your average IPA. Its more crisp and less overwhelmingly bitter. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but this is expected. This isn’t my favorite beer, but I didn’t expect it to me. It’s not bad.

355ml bottle at home. Clear golden with a medium white soapy head. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Well balanced sweet- and bitterness. Malts, caramel, citrus, grass, pine, herbs and banana. A nice tasteful and refreshing pale ale.

35,5cl bottle from Systembolaget, Strömstad. Pours deep golden to amber with a slightly creamy off-white head. Mild malty aroma with fruity and hoppy notes, citrus, caramel and hints of herbs. Moderate to medium sweet with fruity and herbal flavours and a moderate bitter and slightly dry finish. Decent APA, but not as refreshing as I remembered it.
