Anchor Liberty Ale

She poured a bright sunrise golden orange with a generous head of tightly packed bubbles. The head slowly fades into a soft blanket on top which thickens a bit along the sides of the glass. Brussles lace clamber all-over my glass as I swirl her to release a fresh nose. Lightly sweet with a hint of apples. Brisk wet citrus hop esters and a touch of orange specifically mingle around in what is a surprisingly soft nose. Body and mouthfeel is very soft and bubbly. A pleasant effervescence which carries with it creamy oils from the hops and a subdued nutty caramel sweetness from the malts. Fresh oranges and grapefruit keep the crisp hip profile hopping in my mouth, while the malts provide a very smooth ride for my tastebuds. Anchor Liberty Ale doesn’t scream out at me to notice her, but instead soothes. Light, fluffy, and effervescent till the end. Subtle malty nuts with caramel notes and mellow blend of apples, grapefruit, orange, and hop oils carry me in a gentle embrace through to the finish. A fine session American pale ale.
Anchor Liberty Ale is definitely not as hopped as some of the current American pale ales I have tried, something which I find rather refreshing. I have enjoyed some American pale ales which have bordered on being an IPA. I wouldn’t put Liberty Ale down as my favorite American pale ale, but sometimes a gentler session is exactly what the beer doctor ordered.

Hazy golden, thick white head. Very clean & fresh aroma, grapefuity hops and soft malts. Smooth malty flavor, strong citric hops, menthol, yeast towards the end. Medium bodied, smooth carbonation. Easy and fruity APA, could (but won’t) drink gallons of it a night.

12 oz bottle. Nothing too special with the aroma, but a pleasant unimposing citrus with an almost bready pale malt backing. Good looking head with the pour, stays around alright, but rather light looking, good amount of carbonation, straw-orange in color. I think this beer is very well balanced, nothing off-putting at all about the flavor, which is overall fairly standard apa affair with maybe a slightly more prominent bitter citrus hop linger at the end and aftertaste, which i enjoy. Really just a nice, solid, standard ale.

YOU CAN TASTE THE HOPS AND IT IS A LITTLE BITTER BUT IT GOES DOWN SMOOTH. I RECOMMEND IT AND IT IS WORTH A TRY.

Bottle with that distinctive Anchor shape. Nice copper color, slight haze, great head. Medium body. By today’s standards, it’s mild. West coast hops are balanced by bsicuity malts. Still worth drinking after all those years.
