San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

35,5 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra, Tiel. Hazy light brown with an off-white head. Malty aroma with some hops. Malty and fruity taste. Slightly boozy which also gives some alcohol warmth. Great beer.

Colore marrone, schiuma cremosa. Odore fruttato, malto caramellato, liquoroso, pere, fichi, frutta matura. Sapore dolce, caramellato, fruttato; liquorosa, corposa, calda; finale amaro a smorzare il dolce, che rimane il sapore predominante. Da meditazione.

- A naughty Granny’s dream: good blend of rum baba, caramel and high alcohol. - Nose: Slightly bready/salty caramel; rum baba cake, amplified by mucho alcohol. - Body: sweet. - Finish: sweetish, with a little hop; not sure if slightly underweight for ~9%, or if just nicely balanced.

Bottle - A bit hazy, deep copper colour with lacing, creamy tan head. Mostly malty sweetness in the nose, toffee, biscuts, red fruits and resinous hops. Taste of caramel, honey, oak, dried plum with rich malty notes. Resinous hoppy tase in the finish. Full body, thick texture, average carbonation, slight alcohol warmth. Massive, comlex barleywine, highly recommended.
