San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

Wyraźny aromat pomarańczowy, chmielowy, do tego słód i delikatny alkohol. W smaku słodkie, toporne, ziołowe, goryczka średnia. Bardzo dobre piwo, dobrze pijalne, alkohol zamaskowany nutami słodowo-chlebowymi Wyjątkowe w swoim stylu

1ère barley wine et je suis vraiment déçu... Je la trouve trop sucrée et trop alcoolisé... Ressemble beaucoup aux bières belges...

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2014 Banane, Bubblegum, dunkle Früchte in der Nase, karamell, leichter Alkohol. Perlig rötlich-braune Farbe. Am Gaumen Süße, dunkle Früchte, Leichte banane, Holz, Whiskey, leichte Bitternoten (stärker als in belgischen Quads). Samtig, gute Kohlensäure, fantastisch.

Pours a dark rust color with quickly dissipating head and no lacing. On first taste I think this beer would be great, but the sweetness just overpowers it for me. I couldn’t finish it. I wouldn’t try this again.

Van deze barley wine had ik meer verwacht. Hij dronk lekker weg, bevatte een klein zuurtje en was zacht in afdronk. Hij had que smaken complexer gemogen.

my first barleywine. nice aroma: a touch of honey, white grapes, a little hint of melon. Great taste. Very sweet, but with enough complexity: warm maltiness, dried fruit (plums, raisins), dark cake, honey, vanilla, woody hints.

Very strong banana aroma. Nice caramel color. Very sweet fruity banana taste. A very sweet aftertaste. Not a very strong alcohol time.
