COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

Bottle at home. Pours dark brown and red. With a offwhite head. Smells of sweet malt, dark fruit, raisins and soil. Moist soil. Taste is thick, bit sweet, low carbonation. Quite strong are, I like that.

This was poured into a chalice. The appearance was a nice looking brown color with a slight transparency running about it. A slim half finger-ed white foamy head quickly dissipated. Light somewhat speckled lacing clings yet slides in a good quick thirty seconds. The smell had a big sweet vanilla backed up by a big sweet caramel and light fruity (somewhat like plums). The taste was mainly sweet through the vanilla and caramel. There was a slight tobacco aftertaste with a mildly dry finish. On the palate, this sat about a medium on the body with a good sipping quality about it. A light tobacco-like quality combined with the vanilla to roll sweetly yet subtly over my tongue. Overall, I’d say this was a pretty good English Barleywine.

Somewhere between hazy and cloudy mahogany color, small off-white head. Aroma is bubblegum, yeast, sugar, some dark fruits, caramel and malt. Fruity kick in my face, also some bubblegum in taste, some caramel and a bit of alcohol. Full body, flat carbonation. Sweet finish. Foghorn, you are great!

Mørk brunorange med høyt beige skum som legger seg fort. Mørke frukter og bær, svisker og alkohollukt. Karamell, frukt og alkoholsøt. Fyldig. Kjenner alkoholen og gjærsmaken. Litt oljete. Koseøl...
