wxman (446), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Nov 24, 2007 Pours a clear ruby color with a moderate tan head. Aroma is dried fruit and hops. Taste has dried dark fruit, a cloying brown sugar maltiness, as well as some slight grapefruity hoppiness. Exceptional barleywine, but the sweetness and ABV make this a one-at-a-time-only brew.
jujubeast6000 (477), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 28, 2008 (boltle aged ~6mo? In fridge coded 8JH): Pours an unmurky brown body, fizzy. Good-sized head, off-white & diminishing. Malty sweet aroma, a little bit of alcohol in the nose. Not very aromatic. Malty, syrupy sweet taste. Malty. Dark fruit taste, similar to a Belgian Strong. Bitter, but not grapefruity. Good for sipping and as it warms up. BOLTZ7555 (446), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 28, 2008 Blood red color with a small eggshell head. Aroma is roasted malt, brown sugar, caramel, and dark fruit. Flavor matches and hides the 9% ABV well. Alcohol isn’t sharp but warms. A very well crafted beer. Love that this one is on the shelf in AZ. PaulHegedus (37), Brampton, Ontario, Canada Aug 26, 2008 Draught at the brewery, August 2008. This is a very sweet Barley Wine. Tasted dark sugars, caramel, dark grapes. Alcohol is very well masked. This is the most accessible barley wine I have tried to date. 41cubs (22), , New Jersey, USA Aug 23, 2008 12 oz. bottle. 2008. Deep mahogany headless mellow monster. Toffee, caramel, biscuit aroma. More of the same in flavor with a silky earthiness and moderate alcohol stance. Solid mouthfeel. downender (1521), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Aug 23, 2008 Bottle from Utobeer. Opaque, reddish amber in colour with a momentary off-white head. Aroma of caramel, red currants and citrus hops. Flavour had loads of sweet fruit - raisins and cherries, with a few nuts, chewy malts and some resinous hops. Finish was dry with some warming alcohol. Well balanced and very enjoyable.
