3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. 2/16/13. Pours a deep red-brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma is delicious and fun; vanilla, banana, dark fruit, grapes, berries, vinous, booze. Aroma reminds me of a banana split. Taste is more straightforward barley wine but still quite nice; vanilla, booze, dark fruit, wood, some hop bitterness, nicely balanced, bitter finish of fruit skin. Mouthfeel is not as chewy as expected. Carbonation is low-medium. Some very light lacing. Overall, I was very pleased with the barley wine.

wonderful sweet fruit flavour with a sharper finish. Only problem is why many Anchor beers are so sugary..

335 ml bottle
Dark amber to deep ruby red clear beer with blonde head. Aroma has dark fruits, toffee sweetness and ripe fruity marmalade.. Flavor has raisin and toffee with some pine. Palate is full and foamy. Finish has quite strong bitterness. Aftertaste has raisin and syrupy sweetness, light saltiness, light licorice, some spiciness. A bit of alcohol. Especially nice aroma. Good refreshing slow-sipper. Not so far from dark Belgian Strong Ales.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
An old stalwart. More British inspired old barley wine.
Rich brown colour. no lasting head or beading.
Malty. Very malty. Rich treacle and molasses banana dried fruit and brown sugary end.Over time it displayed an aged sherry whisky element.
Quite unique really.

Bottle @ home. Pours a cloudy deep red liquid with a medium tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty with caramel, toffee, dried red fruits, honey, perfume. Big mouth feel with a smooth texture, medium carbonation. Flavors include caramel, toffee, pleasant bitter spices & herbs, syrup, dark fruits. Lasting bitterness. Nice balance, not more, not less, a very good barley wine.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Flaska.

1.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bottle bought at Systembolaget Valbo. Even though I tried this one a few times it’s almost undrinkable. Very strong unpleasant taste of alcohol, hard carbonation and waaaay too bitter. Must be drunk to drink this kind of beers.
