BREWMUSKCLES (789), WEEHAWKEN, New Jersey, USA Jun 13, 2007 very nice looking brew (terracotta pot) . quality flavors of hops and quality sugars particularly from the date and prune/raisin. yes i note the alcohol prescence which i do not particularly favor. nice candysugar taste that seems genuinely good and also earthy . the carbonation enhances the overall enjoyment. fine aroma makes you feel warm.
DeadGuyFrank (345), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA Oct 7, 2008 Old Foghorn is first off, a great name for a barleywine. Second, Andy Musser from the Phils ol’ broadcasting team pours it at the Kennett Brewfest. Third, it is one of my favorite barleywines period, plenty of ripe fruit, malt backbone, but not port like. Super fantastic beer - highly recommended. Fin (2348), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Oct 6, 2008 Bottle, picked up at Bellingers Jet Garage, Grove Nr Wantage,Oxon, consumed 06-10-08 Pours brown but a bit ruby reddish as well, white head, looks good. Some dark sticky fruits on the nose, predominantly figs and dates but also some raisins, bit Christmassy I suppose. Taste is sweet, malty and those dark fruits show again but backed up with a big dose of alcohol, really quite nice but not as good as I expected. mattmc1973 (125), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Oct 5, 2008 12oz bottle, pours a rich copper color with frothy white head. Aroma of strong caramel malt, brown sugar, dark fruits, and slight hops. Taste of sweet, strong malt, hops, and fruit. Rich mouthfeel, with alcohol. Good barley wine. smith4498 (375), Miami, Florida, USA Oct 1, 2008 Pours dark copper with off white head. Aromas of caramel, ripe fruit, licorice, sugar and some alcohol. Sweet malty flavors of caramel, toffee and ripe fruits. Hops are mild. Full body with mild carbonation and a sticky, syrupy mouthfeel. A very good barley wine. mjs (576), Helsinki, Finland Sep 28, 2008 (Bottle, BBE Apr 06, at Pikkulintu, Helsinki, on 2008-09-27) Amber. Clear. Hardly any head. Lots of malts and some raisin in nose.
