COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

This has the typical Anchor flavor base but packed with extra flavors. Very sweet, creamy and malty. Toffee, honey, sugar, butterscotch, sweet rye bread and some fruitiness like plum, figs, raisin and pear. Has a light bitter in the finish. When the bitter mellows out there’s the sweetness again. Very full flavored tasteful beer. The only downside i can think of is that it might be a bit too sweet and could get a bit annoying as a session beer.

2010 bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours clear deep red - brown with a thick beige head. The nose is bitter-sweet, oily, toffee, fruit cake, light spice, candied peel, stewed orange, honeysuckle and peach. The taste is rich, bitter - sweet, toasty, varnish, piney wood, peach, nectarine, tangy marmalade, light alcohol boost, tannins, fruit cake and leather with a slick finish. Medium - full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Great balance and high drinkability. Very tasty indeed.

Bottle shred in London - sourced from the Euston Tap. Vintage 2010. Pours a compelling clear copper with a creamy tan head. There’s a hearty dose of pine in the nose, dried citrus, orange, crusty bread. Medium sweet flavor with some graham crackers, ripe berries, oily pine, a bit of toffee, orange peel. Full bodied with fine carbonation. A little chewy. Warming finish, oily, with rich citrus, light earthy and piney bitterness, toasty bread. Solid.

W aromacie suszone owoce, śliwki, karmel, typowy BW.

Drank with Liedewij while talking 11-8-2015. Liked this beer very much. It is quite rich. It grabs you and does not let go. Very sweet, alcohol, complex and compelling. Liked it very much.
