COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

This has the typical Anchor flavor base but packed with extra flavors. Very sweet, creamy and malty. Toffee, honey, sugar, butterscotch, sweet rye bread and some fruitiness like plum, figs, raisin and pear. Has a light bitter in the finish. When the bitter mellows out there’s the sweetness again. Very full flavored tasteful beer. The only downside i can think of is that it might be a bit too sweet and could get a bit annoying as a session beer.

Bottle. Pours a medium amber-brown with a small tan head. Malty aroma, with toffee, sultana raisins, tobacco, hints of white grape and other fruit. Flavour is sweet and malty up front with a touch of fruity tartness and bitterness, some caramel, toffee, raisin, grape and leather notes. Nicely balanced, a little dry with some warmth in the finish. Very tasty.

Intéressante à première vue et à la première gorgée, mais le sucre l’emporte trop, impossible à terminer. On sent le houblon, mais c’est trop doux pour moi.

12 oz bottle pour. Pours a dark brownish copper color with a sweet, semi hoppy aroma. Really rich caramel malt flavor with a definite hop presence all throughout. Some dark fruit hints on the palate. I normally don’t enjoy beers with this type of sweetness as much, but it didn’t bother me here. Very smooth drinking barley wine. Think I might see what a little time will do to this one now. Really low price for a solid beer.

Julie says an interesting Carmelly nuke but takes a while to actually taste the goodness. It is blah the rest of the way. She gives a 2.2

Copper colored beer with a white head, low carbonation. Smells fruity. Taste is fruity, sweet honey and some hoppy bitterness. The alcohol is well hidden, good beer.

I like this precisely because it doesn't really taste like a barley wine. The sweetness is almost residual and well balanced with the hops.

Pours copper with a small head. Aroma: very malty, but also hoppy (flowers, citrus). Taste: pretty thick, malty sweetness, honey and a nice hoppy bitterness in the finish, plus a subtle warming effect in the throat. A greatly balanced barley wine, very drinkable. Alcohol very well hidden.

De color ambar y buena capa de espuma beige de mediana retención. Aroma a fruta madura y licor. Oleosa y sin mucha carbonatación. En boca de nuevo fruta madura, dulce y acaramelada, dejando sensación alcohólica en la garganta.
