COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

bottled 05-06, wow looks amazing & I love the way it "tames" itself & becomes a differnet ale... Very complex & strong, esp. for the claimed 8.2%. Wish I had bought a six pack :(

Great Barleywine. One of my favorites. The malt is up front and makes itself known early. Love the head and it definitely makes me think of bread with a touch of spice. Great dark coloring. This is a buy every time I see it beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Copper colour with nice yellowish head. Raisins, malt alcohol in the aroma. Alcohol, malt raisins, sweet alcoholic bitterness in the aftertaste. High in carbon.

35 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark reddish brown with an off-white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are caramel, toffee, dried fruits, spices, and alcohol - with a slightly alcoholic finish.

Bottle, labelled as 10% abv. Appearance- a fairly dark, murky reddy brown, fairly opaque, a one finger beige head which quickly disappears. Aroma- lots of toffee, sweet breadiness, malty, dark fruits, plums, dates, Christmas cake. Smells lovely. Taste- caramel, sweet brown sugar- very dessert-like. Boozy dark fruits, burnt sugar, almonds, cherry coke, gets sweeter (if that’s possible) as it warms, with hints of banana. Full mouthfeel, syrupy, long clinging malty and raisiny finish. This is great.

Bottle. Clear, amber color, small, pernament head. Aroma: Strooong hit of caramel, a lot of bread, maybe some sweet fruits, slight sound of an alcohol. Taste: Very sweet start with quite bitter finish. Bitterness does not overpower sweetness, but it is significant. Sweet flavor of bread, caramel, bisquits with bitter finish. Bitterness short, oily body and low carbonation makes brilliant mouth feel. Very good beer.

What a brew! This brew has played historical roles in my life and will continue to as long as the craft beer industry continues to grow. A delicious barley wine that goes down like a strong stout.

33cl BBe 6/2015 Aroma of dry fish, brandy and charred barrels. Pours clear ruby red with thin, creamy, brown head. Taste as a barley wine should - malts, malts and malts. Hops are hard to describe here. It is bitter, but closer to the end of mouthful. No yeast or alcohol in the taste. Extremely smooth and silky - the gravity is quite high, and the bubbles are thin and lively. Long, sweet finish. I now regret that I have opened it, and I do not have another one waiting for me.

Minha primeira barley wine. Impressionou. Marrom escuro, bastante doce porém equilibrada. Vou explorar o estilo!
