COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours an amberish brown with a small head and a caramellic, nutty aroma. The flavor is very sweet malts, caramel and alcohol. A syruppy mouthfeel and it also tastes like drinking syrup.

Bottle from Barleywine. Pours hazy amber with a light brown small head. Aroma has toffee, cream, sweet malt, sweet notes, citrus hops, oranges and some fruit candy as well. Taste has sweet malt, toffee, cream, tangerine, bitter hops and slight alcohol. Mouth feel is smooth, full boided, medium carbonation and a long bitter aftertaste.
Really nice to have tried this classic barley wine, pretty sweet overall but the highlight was the nice orange and tangerine touch to it.

EYEfeel: beige coloured foam, persistent in my glass, mainly fine bubbles. The beer was dark red coloured (ambrato carico), slightly opalescent. NOSEfeel: Smell of caramel and malt, and a hint of swet spices (cinnamon), not very pronounced overall. MOUTHfeel: very malty sweet at the beginning, hot feeling in the throath. alcoholic bitterness very persistent. Hop bitterness (like smell) not very strong. Overall: the beer was very (prevalently) sweet, probably too young (drunk in june ’13, best before april 2014). I had a butter biscuit covered with some chocolate: yum.

Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with white head that disappeared rather quickly. Aroma is malt, candy, spices, caramel. Flavor is very sweet, malt, caramel, alcohol, licorice, candy. I liked the sweetness at first, but perhaps it’s a bit too overwhelming.

Reddish brown body, almost transparent, low carbonated. Little head, diminishes quickly into a thin film. Powerful aroma, led by caramel, mature fruits, wine, cherry and a little of honey. Strong body, mellow, thick mouthfeel, warm and sweet finish. Complex, deep and amazingly balanced taste. Caramel, spices, cherry. Alcohol amazingly masked.

Cor rubi com espuma creme. Bua formação de espuma e boa persistência. Aroma bastante frutado, com um pouco de caramelo. Sabor com alto dulçor, quente pelo alto teor alcoólico. Médio amargor. Boa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2013 Had high expectations of this, massive sherry and vegetable nose slightly spicy colour is murky brown toilet water. Taste is parsnip root veg slight caramel. Like a supercharged anchor steam. Definitely has the anchor ’house’ taste. It had been in my fridgr for weeks but fortunately it improved once warmed. Good.

The aroma is fruit forward. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a thin off-white ring and no lacing. The taste is dark pitted fruit, malt, and a hint of alcohol. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Overall, ok, but I like Old Gaurdian much bettere.

Unknown vintage, but the bottle reads "10D" in a label box. Tasted side by side with a 2013 Bigfoot. Nice, rich amber color with plenty of eggshell head, just a hair darker than the BF. Aroma is deep caramel, sweet and boozy, less hoppy than the BF. Some dark cherry, sweet tea, and bourbon notes come out in the aroma as it warms. Taste is an excellent balance of malt and hops, with no spikes at all.
