COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s celebrated Old Foghorn Ale has been virually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer, in one of the world’s smallest and most traditional breweries, since 1975. Our barleywine-style ale, the first of its kind in modern times in the United States, has a luscious depth of flavour that makes it ideal for sipping after dinner. It is made with top-fermenting yeast, fresh whole hops, and "first wort", the richest runnings of a thick all-malt mash. Old Foghorn is "dry hopped" in the classic ale tradition and aged in our cellars until it attains the perfect balance of malty sweetness, estery fruitiness, and exquisite hop character, for which it is known throughout the world. A ruby red ale with little carbonation and a warm finish.

Pours with a somewhat opaque amber color and a frothy head that lasts. Has a fruity, nutty flavor with a taste of alcohol in the finish.

WYGLĄD: Barwa miedziana, klarowne. Piana drobna, wysoka, trwała. Pięknie zdobi szkło.
AROMAT: Intensywny. Karmel wymieszany z czerwonymi owocami (żurawina, borówka, porzeczka, czereśnie). W tle nuty ziołowe.
SMAK: Absolutna dominacja karmelu. Nieznaczny posmak owoców. Goryczka średnia, krótka. Alkohol dobrze ukryty, delikatnie rozgrzewający przełyk. Odczucie "zaklejania ust".
OGÓLNIE: Zacny klasyk. Nie zawiódł moich oczekiwań. Ponadczasowy Barley Wine.

Truly an American classic. Deep garnet pour with a minimal eggshell colored head. Lots of fruity esters, caramel for days, cake, earthy hops, touch of booze. Flavors were full of dark fruit, caramel, cherries, roasted nuts. Lingering bittersweet finish with a viscous and slick mouthfeel. Super balanced, slight heat in the finish, sweetness held in check. So good. Can’t imagine the response when this was first brewed. Classic.

Strutturata e luppolata, ma mette in risalto la dolcezza dei malti. Aromi di frutta, calda e pastosa.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2016 It pours out with a substantial head, and has a dark amber colour. The Aroma is dense with the malt notes leading to a fruity spice at the end. Texture is silky smooth, like velvet or good champagne. Perfect carbonation and excellent mouth feel. Taste is complex and rather interesting. Perhaps a little intense over the bottle but at first you get a wonderful depth of flavors. From the alcohol content at the front followed by a treacle finish. Maybe a little on the sweet side. Its not perfectly balance although some dry hops come through. It has a wonderful kick and excellent alcohol warmth. This is a very good beer and excellent value. A bottle is plenty enough though. I would share it.

Bottled, 355ml, aged 6.5yrs from York Beer & Wine, York. Amber to copper with off white head. This proved to be a smooth, rich and luscious beer that had aged really well. Certainly wine like in a rum soaked dark prune like way, warming with just a hint of caramelisation towards the back of the palate. Some sweetness, but just enough. There are malt biscuit and old leather notes. Oh yes, very good.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2016 0,33l bottle. Dark copper colour with quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma: Honey, fruits, caramel, candy sugar, herbs, You can smell it from a distance. Amazing. Taste: Sweet nd sweet and sweet malts. A medium bitterness is hiding but the sweet malts dominates. Medium/full body, fizzy carbonation. Long malty bitter-sweet finish. Very good barley wine. Yum!
