DocHop (185), College Park, Maryland, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a beautiful clear, ruby, caramel color with a medium off-white tan head. Delicious caramel, thick malt, and molasses/brown sugar aroma. Flavor has a deep sweetness of caramel malt. The body is very creamy and smooth, and the finish is slightly dry hop and alcohol. Gives a spicy impression overall, with a little overripe cherry.
JamesD (156), Centreville, Virginia, USA Sep 4, 2008 I thought this was a great barleywine. There’s a lot of alcohol and malt to the aroma. Hints of citrus, flower, and cinnamon are very noticeable. The flavor is very malty, a little bit of christmas spice, and a nice warming feel coats your throat as it goes down the hatch. The palate is creamy, velvety, and extremely thick. This would be a good bread and butter, everyday barleywine, given it’s low price relative to other barleywines. mirjukka (371), LOHJA, Finland Sep 2, 2008 bottle 355ml 4,32€ from Alko Arkadia EXP Aug 09 ?
deep amber transparent Taste pleasant sticky pine, citrus, caramel .Fruitiness kick in aftertaste. Warming alcohol presents. I tasted this last time years ago and it was more steamy than this one. Anyway I could think this as dessert after dinner. Mitch_Wayne (104), Kokkola, Finland Aug 31, 2008 A nice, hoppy barley wine with a pleasant citrusy dry aroma and a malty lovely taste. Very balanced stuff, I could drink many of these in a row.... SuperDave70 (765), Arizona, USA Aug 30, 2008 Pours a deep amber color with a small but creamy tan head that sticks around. Aroma of dark fruit, deep roasted malt, brown sugar and citrus hops. Flavor is much the same, sweet and sticky with a bit pine-citrus hop finish. Almost chewy on the palate. Nice warming alcohol. For less that $3.00 a bottle, you really can’t go wrong! Angeloregon (1891), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 30, 2008 12oz. bottle from Dave at By the Bottle--Cheers!--Poured a rich vibrant amber body. Not too much of a whitish head. Fruity, bubblegummy, alcohol nose. Lots of hops and malts. Bitter, dark fruitiness, and piny grapefruit in the finish. Big ass beer. A little unbalanced, but, hey, it’s a barleywine.
