Pours a deep dark brown (almost black) color. Aromas of ginger, chocolate, coffee. Flavor has hints of gingerbread, mild chocolate, and a coffee like aftertaste.

Of all of the Our Special Ales that I’ve I’ve had to date, this one has the most freshly baked Christmas fruit cake aroma, along with the usual spicesn pine needles, and a dollop of chocolate. Nice and creamy, it’s got a good chocolate malt flavor, the spices receding somewhat until the fruity, spicy finish. Pretty good.

Sample taste at <a href=http://www.chibeer.org>Chicago Beer Society vertical tasting, Dec. 1. Another beer with a nice fruity smell A bit of alcohol volatility, and this one’s a bit light on the Christmas spices. Some of the other tasters remark on a tobacco smell.

virtually no aroma to this... weird... very piney and hoppy. not the nice mellow sweet hops from usual west coast beers though. no malt to speak of. some nice spice-- nutmeg and allspice and cinnamon, OK but nothing lkike FANTASTIc.

thanks to Papsoe (again) for this! Opaque, very dark ruby color. Thick, creamy head. Rich, chocolate aroma. Flavor is like spicy, red berries. Maybe with some cinnamon? Anyways, it’s nice and sweet with a chocolatey aftertaste. Probably best in smaller quantities.

Dark crimson with a creamy cranium.
Smell: Merry f’n’x-mas indeed! Ginger, mint, cinnamon, cloves, sugarplums, candycane. Add a turkey and you’ve got the whole holiday wrapped up in a bottle!
A little madeirized, it tasted like a melted gingerbread man (Not my gumdrop buttons!) and felt sherry sweet and glowing with alcohol. I’m no expert on cellaring and wasn’t able to do a vertical on this Beer, but I think we got this one open just in time.
