Dark rich color and flavor, Hoppy, malty very nice beer!!! As I have said befor this isn’t exactly one of my favorite categories but when you drinka a good beer it doesn’t matter. This is a very good beer. Definitely a bottle I will always keep. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Jul 8, 2004 Bottle. pours black with a tan head. spicy malt aroma. you can taste the Jesus in this, cinnamon and nutmeg combine with a dough taste. very full bodied brew. finishes a sweet malt flavor. not much if any bitterness to this. thanks for the bottle, Lumpy. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Jul 6, 2004 Bottle. Two finger beige head on a dark ruby red body. Nose smells malty with some hints of ginger and nutmeg. The nose is AWESOME! First flavor that comes out is a moderate hoppy bitterness, some light pear, ginger, very light cinnamon, malt, and a little raisin/prune. The overall taste is quite complex and really, really good. It tastes like a malty gingerbread. The finish has a bitter dry bite that fades quickly. I bougt a sixer and I am going to cellar the remaining five. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 5, 2004 Brown color with a medium head. Interesting aroma of spices and gingerbread. Very spicy gingerbread flavor with maybe some smoked malt. Feels like a true winter beer with its spicy character, very well done. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Jun 4, 2004 Cinnamon, and tons of spices fill the aroma which is awesome. Dark ruby coloration. Bubbly 1/4 inch thick head. very pleasant. A very good beer. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 26, 2004 Dark brown in color with a tan head. Body is malty with a dry aftertaste. Cornboy (417), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA May 22, 2004 Dark red/brown pour. Nice spice aroma (pine needles) immediately apparent.
A beer I buy a case each year upon release and cellar.
I like the 2001 of the last 5 years, but the 2003 was close.
