4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2003 12oz. Before rating, I must say this beer went far above my expectations. Itís huge!; both in its sexy appeal & complexity and also it ability to aid holiday reminisence. OK, first the ale looks amazing! This dark brown ale is obaque in the center, allowing a little mahogany little in @ itís edges. Very little, but tan, head. Itís smell almost dumb-founded on the first scent, itís like cooked meats?, cookies, spices, fukin christmas! The tastes are equally explosive set subdued. Heavly spices and still a well structured malty-hop balance. Very good! They managed to put something like gingerbread cookies and x-mas tree shopping in there too. But really there is so much going on here, I canít put a finger on most. This was a very lucky find, @ City Beverage in Win.-Sal., NC. They also had BIG ASS group bottles for under 20!

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Shared 12 oz. bottle, poured to snifters showing a deep mahogany hue, with some tan head foam that diminished immediately to bubbly film and a thin ring, with only some leggy spots decorating the glass. The nose was a hint of teriyaki, and dark fruit. Light to medium bodied, with no effervescence, the taste was dry, with a hint of soy, and a fairly indistinguishable, washed out flavor. Didnít cellar well.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very dark brown beer. Lots of brine sugar and some spices mix fairly well with the oxidation. Better than I wouldíve though!

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle... Poured near black with a small head, mild lacing and retention. A bit of oxidation in the aroma which was soon masked by earthy, herbal, and baking-like spices. Similar in flavor but missing depth and sweetness to pull it through. A hint if soy sauce with brown sugar too. Along the lines of other vintage Anchor Christmas Ales I have had, but I have had some from the late 90s that were even better than this one.

Bottle brought over and shared by Doug on Christmas along with a í89 and í09, thanks

Aroma: Toasted malts, bitter chocolate and spices

Decent, compared to the others you could taste the similarities. This one was heading the same direction as the í89

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared with Craig Christmas 2011. Pours a black color with a large brown head. The aroma is a odd sour and spicy nose, some oxidation. A sweet spicy flavor with some metallic sourness and bitter prune. Almost like unripe fruit and also overripe fruit! Bitter pine. Not my thing, interestingly this is very much like the 1989 I had heading that way for sure. Both has sourness and metallic flavors that were not pleasant. Drinkable, but odd.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Maybe a bit too long to cellar, this beer still offered a wonderful bouquet of yuletide flavors that left me grateful to try the beer and mucho thanks to my xmas party host. Poured from a bottle with a small off-white head and midnight-burnt sienna body, the flavor was on-point for an 8 year old brew. Nicely developed caramel and ginger notes mixed well with the noticeable spruce hints to create what I consider a full bodied beer (rare given the style). If you are lucky enough to try this beer, donít complain if it isnít what you expected. Just be gracious for the offering, remember the season, and enough what is a delightful winter/Christmas beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pour out of bottle is dark reddish with thin white head, aroma has notes of caramel, pine, mint and spruce notes, touch of hints of spice in there with a touch of faint molasses. Taste is a really strong minty and pine, spruce tip presence, touch of molasses and slight dark fruit, finishing fairly clean and sweet. A bit weird but ok.
