Aroma seems very spicy in a holiday type way with a bit of caramel. Not something I particularly enjoy. Looks nice, small tan head, rich brown body, good lacing. My initial thought when tasting it was wow, bitter. As i swallowed, the bitterness was replaced by holiday spices, and a slight bit of sweetness. Aftertaste was again bitter in an almost toasty, slightly burnt way. Has a bit of creaminess, but not overly prevalent. bobaidan (358), Farmington, Connecticut, USA Dec 10, 2008 2008 bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium head. Aroma is dark caramel with some nice spicy hops. Mouth feel is very carbonated, but in a good way. Flavor is spicy but rounded off nicely with sweet roasted malt. weezfour (122), Oradell, New Jersey, USA Dec 8, 2008 Damn good. A little too dark and syrupy to just sit and drink, but would be great with a nice meal. Fin (3385), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Dec 8, 2008 Had this at a Café/bar in the company of Loz, Casey and Traci on 17-11-08, just before we said cheerio to Casey and Traci. Pours very dark brown with light beige head. Really nice and creamy, some condensed milk and big caramac flavours leapt out at me quite yummy with good Christmassy feel. Aroma is malty, cinnamon and ginger spice cookies.
Flavour was gingerbread, light orange peel bitterness. Not bad. tedovertu (259), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Dec 8, 2008 Dark brownish amber color with very frothy tan head. Allspice and nutmeg mixed with some caramel. Not a bid fan of the spice beers but this one is pretty balanced and not overpowering. A little watery. jhumphries69 (718), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Dec 7, 2008 12oz bottle - 2008. Pours very, very dark brown with brilliant ruby red highlights. Thick tan head that fades and leaves light streaks of lace on the glass. Aroma is full of molasses with some caramel, tangy malts, dark fruit, and very faint level of spices - clove and licorice? Flavor starts toasty with blackstrap molasses, crystal malts, and subtle holiday spices - allspice? mace?. Finish has a dry cocoa bittersweet quality with bready malts, light spices, and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is crisp and moderately carbonated - light tingle on tip of tongue. Body is medium-full. Overall, an interesting winter warmer with a nice molasses and toast malt character. The spicing is light - which is nice, but Ive also enjoyed past years where this beer tasted like a Christmas tree... VTHopHead (895), Barre, Vermont, USA Dec 7, 2008 Bottle - Pours a quite dark brown in color with a small tannish head that quickly faded to a thin rim around the top of the beer, Some small amount of lacing on the glass. Aroma is malty sweet with hints of spices... cinnamon, nutmeg... and a small amount of hopiness. Flavor is much more choclatety than it smelled. Plenty of spices too. Some flavor of dark fruit. Medium bitterness on the finish. This is a good beer and one that I will definitely seek out in coming years...
