3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Bestway. 2010 vintage.
Pour: Brown/reddish pour. Thin collar of foam.
Aroma: Dark fruit spice nose.
Taste: A holiday beer. Spice coupled with prunes/raisins. Cinnamon/nutmeg and vanilla tones cascade through this brew. Juniper in the mix perhaps. Reminded me of a light, beery Swedish Glogg that I’ve had on occasion.
Overall: Imbibed for experience. A holiday thang only.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: MAR 4, 2014 On tap at Flying Saucer because they are always out of everything I want. A pub specializing in a variety of beers but always out of everything. Go figure. Beautiful aroma. Smells of Christmas spices. Solid winter ale with a lingering spiciness that doesn’t quit like your sister.

Pine, vanilla, hops. Slightly astringent taste. A bit harsh, but the flavor is quite interesting.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark brown, with some purple embers. Small 1 finger head retreats almost immediately. Aroma is dominated by ginger, cinnamon & liquorice, some cherry and perhaps a little citrus in the background. Sweet and sour cherry leaks onto the palate, followed by some ginger, nutmeg and a hint of cinnamon. Leaves a hue of roasted-malt-bitterness in its wake. Palate is medium and consistent but due to excessive carbonation is almost soda-esque. Its status as one of Anchor’s flagship beers warrants a more pronounced flavor profile and aroma.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2013 vintage, 355 ml bottle from beer-shop.it served in a snifter. Dark copper/maroon with some purple tinges, pretty clear, and a frothy light brown head, lots of big bubbles and not very persistent. On the nose dark fruits, wild type of fruits (blackberries), sour black cherries under spirit, cinnamon, light nuttiness. Not overwhelmingly spicy, quite smooth and velvety, even though I can feel a soapy flavour before the roasted malts and nutty notes. Too fizzy for my personal preference, but it gets better after some swirling. Light to medium body and oily texture. So so.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
2013 bottle. Pours reddish dark brown with thick tan head that dissipates quickly. Smells of spices and grain. Light mouthfeel with fine carbonation. Lots of spices and pepper in the front, hints of celery, raisins, and a slightly hoppy finish in the back of the mouth. Throughout, there is a hint of orange pith. Slightly sticky finish.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle @ 2nd Tuesday Tasting. 2013 vintage. Pours a hazy brown beer with a medium sized, off white head on top. Aroma of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardemon and loads of other spices. Really Christmassy... Flavor is again very herbal with sweet touches of roasted malts and cardemon. Some citrus peel in there as well. Spice bomb. Short and herbal aftertaste. Decent beer.
