3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a very dark red with a healthy head. Every time I have this beer it always seems different due to a variety spices Anchor puts in. This time around I get heavy lemon aromas (2012 edition)

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 10/24/2013. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, raisin, ginger, nutmeg, juniper, spruce, brown bread, licorice, floral, and herbal earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and spice notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, raisin, ginger, juniper, nutmeg, herbal, floral, brown bread, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, brown sugar, juniper, ginger, nutmeg, brown bread, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of malt and spice flavors; with solid robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good winter warmer style. Good balance and complexity of malt and spice flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at home. Has a slightly hazy reddish brown colour with a beige, medium, coffee-like head. Interesting and complex aroma of cloves, more spices, licorice, port, dried fruit, chocolate and oak. Very spicy and medicinal flavour with a slightly sour touch, and more pine. Smooth mouth feel, and a light bitterness. Complex and interesting aroma. One of a kind beer, but the flavour is not my cup of tea.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Mild vegetable quality, gingerbread quality, musty, clove vibe but ultimately a bit thin and slightly watery, dank. Not my cup of tea.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
2013. Dark brown with brownish head. A tad bitter. Not to heavy on the spice. Nice to share at card night.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Can't really detect anything on the nose. Granted, this was served colder out of the tap than it should have. Waterier than I would have liked. Overall not overly impressed. Better definitely as it warms up. If I had it out of the bottle I would let it sit first before I tried it.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Black Market Tavern. Appearance: dark brown color, medium sized tan-brown head, ok lacing. Aroma: ginger, cinnamon, roast, fruit, nut. Palate: medium body, light carbonation, smooth thin texture. Taste: spice, heavy sweetness. Overall a good holiday beer, but not something that will forever remind me of the holiday season either.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
2012 poured from bottle to glass. Nice amber color with white head. Aroma was "holiday spices" all the way. Some caramel, sugar, slight roastiness, malty essences. Flavor was sweet initially with a bitter following. Slight astringentness from the spices in the finish. Some hop bitterness remained but really no hop character was to be found. Overall, this was a decent "holiday spiced" ale...not too overpowering, but definitely spice-centric.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A: Chocolate red ale with nearly three fingers which fall quickly to a sheet of tan. Spotty lace and excellent clarity.
S: cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Turns out, this year the holiday is pumpkin. Otherwise, some slight nutty malts.
T: Lots more spices: cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, clove. A brown/porter malt profile, which complements the spices well.
M: thin with low carb. Semi dry finish.
O: Meh, not bad. Not going back for more, however.
