COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our special ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to mid-January. The Ale’s recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons appears born anew.

Editor’s Note: due to the significant similarity in style and strength from year to year (despite potential differences in the exact spice blend), this beer is no longer separated by vintage.

Brown with a thin lacing of white head. Aroma is pine with some Christmas spices (nutmeg prominent). Flavor is like spiced bread. Comforting, though the finish is a little on the thin side. Surprisingly refreshing though.

355 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue and a large tan head that laces. Spicy aroma with caramel and roasted malt. Sweet and spicy flavours of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, caramel and roasted malt with a dry finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle purchased as a chilled single from Wholefoods, Fremont CA. Very dark ale. Little carbonation nor head. Spice upfront, and rich caramel malts. I get this beer, not my favorite but respect the brewer’s efforts. Would like to try on draught.

Pours reddish-brown with moderate beige head. Tastes of malt & spices - ginger, cinnamon and others. Malty but thin and easy to drink. Not smokey, that’s a plus. Good for the style, but not my style.

Bottle. Very dark ruby. Aroma of winter spice and dark fruit. Plum and raisin notes. Very high carb with a thin mouthfeel. A little sweet on the finish. Decent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep reddish brown pour out of the giant bottle, with a sudsy, tan head. Aromas of malt and spices. Flavor is a bit of the same, with some funk mixed in, but nothing too off putting. Damn, this is a big ass bottle.

Aroma is fig, cinnamon, spice and caramel. Light plum and raisin notes. Taste is a very sweet spicy body with a very pale bitterness. A sweet spicey body to the end. Appearance is a very dark clear amber with a medium pearl head that retains well.

2014 bottle to Nonic pint. The pour is a deep reddish brown with a decent head that doesn't last too long. The aroma is spicy and malty. The taste is spicy and malty and a bit funky. The finish is clean and bright. Nice little beer from Anchor. Looking forward to next years version. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 version in 12 oz. bottle from fridge to glass. Christmas hard candy type smell with what seems to be seasonal spices but also could be herbal. The color appears to be copperish with a light tan medium head with very little lacing. Medium sweetness to a light sourness that is taste explosion of almost a potpourri type hint that leaves it actually hard to describe. Finishes nice on the palate and makes you ready for what you might taste next. Merry Christmas and thanks for providing a unique tasting experience each year. Nice sequoia drawing on the label this year! Nothing like a good seasonal with taste and meaning.
