COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our special ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to mid-January. The Ale’s recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons appears born anew.

Editor’s Note: due to the significant similarity in style and strength from year to year (despite potential differences in the exact spice blend), this beer is no longer separated by vintage.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2006 Aroma is like Christmas. Cinnamon and clove especially. Had this wishing it was Christmas time (its too hot!!!!) and got exactly what I was looking for. THere is however, something lacking in the flavor component. Its not that it tastes bad, its just not incredible. There is a nice gingerbread like aftertaste

12oz into a 6oz sample glass. Pours a mild chocolate brown. Fun, chewy granola, amber, fluid red grape rasin aroma. Dark fruits prevalent. Taste of figs, raisn, dates, amber waves, and malty riches. Solid hearty drinking brew, love the low key aspect of it. Fluid, righteous, and satisfying. Nice beer for the season.

This special ale is easy drinking. Merry Christmas happy new year 2014. If I drink a few more of these it it'll make for a very happy night even though Christmas is a little ways away still. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Season 2014/15 version. Dark brown. Tan head. Interesting aromas, juniper, spruce lingering above a kola induced malt. Medium bodied, medium bitterness, slight sweetness. Hints of juniper and spruce. Fresh yet dark enough to fit the season. Interesting, with a lot of taste going on!

Svart med litet ljusbrunt skum. Doftar och smakar lite juligt med inslag av enbär!? Ok men inte mer

Dark copper color. Beige head. Medium to thin body. Dry, some bitterness. Some odd aroma I can’t really define. Malty taste.

It pours like a coke in color, with a handsome, frothy, quarter-inch head. It smells like Christmas in a bottle: eggnog, fruitcake, allspice, nutmeg, and vanilla curd are complemented by piney, herbal hops. Very inviting. The mouthfeel is medium to light, velvety with adequate carbonation. The taste is primarily bitter from the hops, with a spicy, orange-pelt sweetness rounding it out towards the end. It’s good, but it does not deliver on the promises the nose made. I generally like my Christmas-season beers a lot stronger, darker, stickier, and sweeter, but I enjoyed this.

Pours deep dark brown with a finger of light tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, toffee, light citrus, light butterscotch, not very Christmas-y but nice. Taste is light to medium sweet with quite heavy burnt butter flavors, especially in the lingering finish. Light body with soft carbonation.

Gingerbread aroma. Gingerbread spice taste, with hints of satsuma orange. Lots of wort flavored bread also. Quite dry. Heaps of Christmas in this bottle.

Format: Bottle from Whole Foods in Redwood City, CA
Aroma: Cloves, cinnamon, burnt sugar, light pine
Taste: Mild sweetness up front, then earthy hops and a tangy sweetness left in the mouth
Palate: Tingly carbonation, light body
Overall: A solid option for those who enjoy the seasonal autumn / pumpkin beers
