3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not a huge fan of this one.
Pours a ruby-brown color with a very thin head. Cannot place aroma, almost like dried dates. Taste is slightly toffee-like with hints of spiciness that I cannot quite place.
A fun beer to try once, but I probably won’t be picking it up again.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2006. This still has malt, fruit, and spices but is thinner and lighter than older aged vintages. Brown beer and no sediment; probably filtered. Malt and fruit aroma with medium sweetness. Flavor has more malt and spices, including cloves and pine.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle - 2006. Burgundy brown with a short, smooth tan head. Grape, orange, cloves. I think sangria or mulled wine. Rather sharp and fizzy. Toffee is overwhelmed by wood alcohol and bitter spices. Sour apple with a chalky finish.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie, dark chocolate), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of allspice, nutmeg, scorched pine needles. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Dark pour with thick white head. Slightly bitter with a sweet undertone. Very light tasting but not as smooth as I expected.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Based on the overall rating, was expecting it to be much better. Aroma was of spices, and some light malt. Taste was much of the same, but was watery and thin. Overall it was decent, but won’t be in any rush to try it again.

2007 bottling - wow, has it really been two years since I’ve bought OSA? - damn - well, anyway, this years batch sure ain’t as spicy as previous years - I pick up a bit of sage and nutmeg in the aroma, but that’s as spicy as she gets - this is a bit lighter in body than previous vintages, and even, one might say, thin on the palate - I pick up notes of cocoa an a leafy, vegetal quality - very light cinnamon an all-spice - a very light touch of anise - finishes kind of thin - this is one vintage that I wouldn’t hold on to - there isn’t much room for development here - nice enough for now, though.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Brixie’s, Brookfield IL. Spices pretty subdued. Most noticable was the dry finish with a touch of bitterness. I think I liked the Great Lakes Christmas Ale a little better.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Had this beer may times over the last 25 years or so. Dang, I’m old. Somewhat variable because they supposedly use a different recipe each year. This one rarely rings my bell. This one from 07 reminds me of years past, where the flavor of spice dominates and does not please me. Course, I generally frown on spiced beers, preferring hops to dominate. Nonetheless, this is a well-made, spiced Christmas ale that should be on everybody who enjoys this style’s short list. I’ve had these at one year age and didn’t find my enjoyment particularly improved.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
2007 edition. Nice aroma but thin mouthfeel and bitter taste. Not as big as the inviting seasonal aroma would promise.
