3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The darker of the two beers I drank, the second I drank and the second in my heart.
Malty, syrupy and spicy (think aniseed and coriander, not chile peppers). Worth a pint if you want something new and different and you like "holiday" flavorings.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: nearly solid black with only faint ruby highlights, one finger of rocky tan head, good retention and spotty lacing. (3/5) Aroma: toffee, molasses, coffee, dark chocolate and fruits, spices, woody spruce. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium-full slightly oily body, moderate carbonation, lingering slightly sticky finish. (4/5)
Definitely an interesting winter warmer style of brew. Lots of traditional midwinter spices and dark, molasses-y malt give it a lot of the “fruitcake in a glass” character I like to see in these ales. There’s more than a hint of spruce, which makes me think they might actually incorporate spruce tips into the brew, but it’s not overwhelming or medicinal. (14/20)

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
2015 edition bottle. Aroma of maple, toffee, capucino, vanilla and cinnamom and some malts. Nice dark brown colour, head vanishes fast. Flavours are a bit porterlike, but also a bit watery. Lots of cinnamom, maple and malts. Sweet, maple/toffee aftertaste. Ok for what it is.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2015 version out of bottle from brewers droop, Bristol. pours deep dark ruby with an orange brown thick persistent head. Aroma is warming with doughy spice like light cinnamon, there is an earthy character against the soft roast nature and possibly spruce notes. The flavour has a dry, nutty roast/char flavour which is balanced by a silky texture. There are subtle spice notes here. Toward the back of the tongue there is a liquorice flavour reminiscent of my early homebrew but much cleaner and later,, some doughyness is perceived in the flavour. Overall, some great flavours and certainly a multifaceted beer though i would say the dough character is somewhat overwhelming some other aspects of the beer. Very nice, though.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark brown with ruby glints where light comes through. A large brown-khaki head forms and retains well. Prune, brown sugar, and a little coffee are noted in the nose. I like the way this drinks--a soft, moderately thick fashion. Muted sweet prune fruit, light sorghum, and some of that homebrew recipe in a box characteristic are all noted in the flavors. Reminds me of a British Porter.
